Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania goes on general release this weekend, and it looks like Marvel Studios' first Phase 5 movie is set to get off to a very impressive start at the global box office.

Early estimates indicated that Peyton Reed's threequel would open big, but according to the latest tracking (via Deadline), Quantumania could take in as much as $280 million worldwide (a franchise best).

Encouraging numbers, for sure, but analysts may not have factored in a lukewarm (at best) critical reception! Reviews have been decidedly mixed so far, and while it's fluctuating around the 60% mark on Rotten Tomatoes, it has currently dipped to "rotten" status.

Nevertheless, MCU movies tend to be (mostly) critic-proof, so even negative reviews may not make much difference to the film's BO performance.

Are you guys planning to see Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in theaters this weekend? Drop us a comment down below.

Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.

Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige and Stephen Broussard, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania also stars Jonathan Majors as Kang, David Dastmalchian as Veb, Katy O'Brian as Jentorra, William Jackson Harper as Quaz and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar.

"Nevertheless, MCU movies tend to be (mostly) critic-proof, so even negative reviews may not make much difference to the film's BO performance."

This will change pretty fast if they continue with the constant mediocrity. "Love and Thunder" has already proved, that they are NOT critic-proof.

@UniqNo - It won't. BP2 made $822 million. This probably won't crack $700.

@mountainman - well I meant opening weekend.

Plus I think this one is getting a China release so it will likely get close

@UniqNo - That makes more sense. It could, especially with China helping out. But BP2 will definitely have the bigger overall BO, and higher RT score lol.

What are everyone's BO predictions?

I'm going $650-700 million WW.

My $800-850 WW for BP2 looked spot on so hopefully I can't get 2 in a row.

I won't be contributing to that total. Waiting for home release on this one.

@AmazingFILMporg - that wont be enough. it will have a 90 percent drop in box office the second week and the haters and critics will love this and relish with clickbait headlines. soon Scorsese will rise from the ashes and Pfeiffer will never have to touch such trashy lowly entertainment again. CINEMA WILL RETURN!!!!!!! Iger will pull the plug soon. we will return to the dark ages of fan fiction until another 20 years before a complete reboot. sad days ahead.

I don't think I'm a Peyton Reed fan. Although the late 2 Ant Man films got good reviews and I hated them. I'll probably actually end up liking this one lol
