Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania goes on general release this weekend, and it looks like Marvel Studios' first Phase 5 movie is set to get off to a very impressive start at the global box office.
Early estimates indicated that Peyton Reed's threequel would open big, but according to the latest tracking (via Deadline), Quantumania could take in as much as $280 million worldwide (a franchise best).
Encouraging numbers, for sure, but analysts may not have factored in a lukewarm (at best) critical reception! Reviews have been decidedly mixed so far, and while it's fluctuating around the 60% mark on Rotten Tomatoes, it has currently dipped to "rotten" status.
Nevertheless, MCU movies tend to be (mostly) critic-proof, so even negative reviews may not make much difference to the film's BO performance.
