BOX OFFICE: Looks Like ANT-MAN Will Fall Just Short Of Its Estimated Weekend Takings

Marvel's final Phase 2 flick was expected to earn between $60 - $65 million at the domestic box office after the weekend's earnings were totalled, but after raking in $22.6 million on Friday it looks set to finish up with about $58 million. Click on for more...

Marvel's Ant-Man took in an impressive (though it does mark Marvel's second lowest Friday opening ever after The Incredible Hulk) $22.6 million on Friday. Along with the $6.4 million it took in from Thursday screenings, the little fella is now on track to pull in an estimated $58 million over the weekend. Not bad at all - especially when you factor in the relative obscurity of the character - though it does fall just under analysts’ projections of between $60 and $65 million.

Elsewhere, Minions is still going string with $14.6 million, and the Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreck made $10.7 million. This means Ant-Man is poised to nab the 12th consecutive No. 1 opening spot for Marvel. Have you seen the movie yet? What did you think? You can check out my 3 star review HERE.

Should put up better numbers today now that the buzz (pun not intended?) is getting out. The important thing is marvel's streak of #1 box office performances continues.

@awesome sauce yeah now it looks like it will more than double it's budget. If we can't trust strangers on the internet to predict the future who can we trust?

Haha people continue to lie to themselves, if Ant Man opens with $57 opening weekend is a very poor result, increasingly it confirms that people are getting tired of watching the same movie every year. Marvel has to balance the tones used in his movies.

This formula is saturating!

@caliente wouldn't be so sure of that. This movie is different it's honestly not quite like anything I've seen from Marvel before. Heck it's not quite like anything I've seen before.

How is 58 million poor?

For a movie that cost 130-150 million

What's this Marvel formula everyone keeps referring to?

I feel people just throw that word around but never specify why they're using it.

Ant-Man better than Ultron?

What are you lot smoking?

This community forms ridiculous consensus opinions and then reproduces them until they become common sense -- but nobody questions the premise.

Ultron is a good movie, and while Ant-Man is fine, it's certainly not better. If you think it is, I'd love to hear why, but I guess then you'd have to think about your opinions for once instead of just "feeling" things in your gut.

@milk2

Are you nuts? Saturation? It was a for Marvel a relatively inexpensive movie, and over the weekend it will probably earn about $60 million, so where's the problem?
