Like Every Other Actor, ANT-MAN's Michael Douglas Is Hoping To Join THE AVENGERS

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hank Pym was Ant-Man in the 1960s, meaning he obviously wasn't a founding member of The Avengers. Even so, Michael Douglas has now revealed that he's hoping to get the chance to suit up in the near future by joining the ranks of Earth's Mightiest Heroes...

One of the most disappointing things about the otherwise brilliant The Avengers is the fact that Ant-Man and The Wasp weren't founding members of the team. That's partly down to the many times Edgar Wright delayed the movie and the direction Marvel decided to go in by having an older Hank Pym serve as a mentor to Scott Lang. Regardless, Michael Douglas is very keen on reprising the role in the near future. Captain America: Civil War or as a member of The Avengers? "Honey, I’ll go anywhere. I’ll go anywhere they want me to. I like this Marvel family; it’s a lovely group. I’ll be honest, their track record’s impeccable — I mean, that’s 12 in a row, right? Who’s done that?"

As for Ant-Man, Douglas had nothing but good things to say about the project. "I think it's incredible," he tells Vulture, "when you have a break from working with the first unit, which is the actors, and you get to go watch the second unit with the stuntmen or the third unit with the special effects or the fourth unit which is the ant’s point of view, the macro photography — and you see how they put it all together." What kind of role would you like to see Hank Pym take on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? As always, share your thoughts on these comments below...

I'm very curious about this fourth unit macro photography. Hoping the DVD release provides a good behind the scenes look at that specific process.

I'd imagine Hank Pym could play a similar role in The Avengers films as he does in Ant-Man. An inventor is always invaluable to the team; especially one who invented the Pym particles. And if the rumors about Scott Lang becoming Giant Man in Civil War are true, then I highly doubt it will have been Lang himself who modified the suit.

Hey why not... All hands on deck for Infinity Wars 2. It could be a nice emotional moment. Old man Pym suiting up to go to battle alongside his daughter despite his disdain for superheroes he knows they are earths only hope.

I love that Marvel employs and gives some exposure to those mature/older veteran iconic actors like Samuel Jackson, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Robert Redford and now Michael Douglas.

Renee Russo is now out but i hope to see more of Glen Close while Tilda Swinton will be an interresting addition too.

I loved the direction they were going with Hank Pym since they announced Michael Douglas. There's no reason why an older Hank can't be fully engaged in the Avengers as another science bro (or even better, as a cranky science uncle). Without seeing the movie, I can't know his full characterization, but he seems like he's definitely more mature and responsible than Stark, and not a pushover like Banner. The only problem is that... oh, wait, I have a meme for this...

When Wright left, and the production was in disarray, I remember thinking "this is a test. If Marvel can put at the helm one of their insiders, and hold this together, then it really puts weight behind the argument that 'studio interference' isn't the big problem behind their more mediocre films." Maybe the success really is about being on the same wavelength, studio and director.

Same here, I really like Old Pym, and Douglas as Old Pym is perfect. Hearing Douglas talk about Ant-Man seriously and how he is approaching the character is Amazing.

Ummmm yeah I'm going to listen to my people that I trust I'm not falling for that again ... Just because some reviewer said it or marvel fans that want to see their movie do good in sales even if the movie is not that great or just ok . Hyping it up just like they did avengers 2 and while I enjoyed the movie it wasn't this great film like these overhyped secretly paid critics ... Then u go to the movie and wonder did me and the critics see the same movie??

ComicBookGirl19 isn't paid by Marvel

She's bashed Marvel movies that she didn't like before

And, Gunn could have said nothing, he didn't say anything about AOU, but instead, Gunn praised Ant-Man

I... I'm overhyped about it. Ant-Man has always been one of my favorite Avengers, and even the prospect of him getting a probably bad movie had me excited in ~2006 before Iron Man proved that Marvel has the potential to make great movies.

Now, the prospect that it might actually be a good movie is getting to me. I'm overhyped. No more news for me.

@drhankpym ok I get what you are saying and maybe she isn't getting paid .... But I still don't trust her because she could be getting paid now sooooo ... But as for gunn I'm not going to believe any movie is good because of a studio employee (gunn) says its so plus with a name like drhankpym u would be a little bias towards the film at the end of the day we all have our own minds and I'm just not being tricked again I'm going with some one I trust with no personal stake in the movie doing good for feelings or money bragging rights

Maybe your getting paid? You know, is this some kind of cover, some type of trick? ha

I don't know, I get what your saying, but that's a really bad way to look at things in my opinion.
