AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM Star Jason Momoa Reveals How The Movie Addresses Climate Change

With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom pushed into 2023, it's been a while since we've seen or heard anything about the sequel. Now, though, some interesting new details have been shared by star Jason Momoa.

When Zack Snyder chose Jason Momoa to play Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it's fair to say we all wondered what was going on. On the surface, the Game of Thrones and Conan the Barbarian star seemed like an odd fit for the King of Atlantis, but he's since proved all the doubters wrong and established himself as a great Arthur Curry.

Next year's Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, has spent most of 2022 making headlines for its release date delay and the size of Amber Heard's role as Mera following her loss in court to ex-husband Johnny Depp.

During a recent interview with GQ, Momoa addressed a number of topics, including the aforementioned Conan reboot (a movie he describes as "a piece of sh*t"). However, he also provided some long-overdue new information about what to expect from Aquaman's next adventure.

"These superhero movies dominate our market, which I have my own thoughts on because I love cinema, but we try to put out a positive message and go on an adventure," the actor says. "Aquaman is the most made-fun-of superhero in the world. But it’s amazing to be able to bring awareness of what is happening to our planet. It’s not some story that’s been told over and over, [it’s a] movie about what’s happening right now but in a fantasy world."

Apparently, the sequel will feature a scene with Arthur addressing the UN to warn them about the impending disaster faced by the world's oceans. Clearly, there's going to be a powerful climate change message at the heart of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, though Momoa also promises that this movie will be "a lot funnier" than its 2018 predecessor.

"I have a great time with...there’s a lot of...it’s a throwback to..." he says, struggling not to reveal anything he shouldn't. "I don’t want to give too much away. But we really get to speed up what is going to happen to this earth, and it’s not because of aliens."

What little we've seen from the movie does point to it being a fun adventure, and Momoa recently took to social media to confirm that Ben Affleck's Batman will make a cameo appearance. Rumour has it those reshoots have switched out Michael Keaton's Dark Knight after test audiences were left confused by his Bruce Wayne's presence in the sequel.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will splash down into theaters on March 17, 2023.
