Director James Wan Explains Why No Other JUSTICE LEAGUE Members Will Appear In AQUAMAN

The underwater world of Atlantis will be the focus of the Aquaman movie, and now director James Wan explains why no heroes from the surface world, including the Justice League, will appear in the DC film.

Last year's Justice League film wasn't the best received DC movie, but there were still some fans who wondered or hoped that some members of the super team would appear in James Wan's Aquaman.

But when Entertainment Weekly asked the director this question, he made it very clear none of the surface world heroes would be joining Arthur Curry (Jason Mamoa) on his journey.

"I wanted to keep the story to the world of Aquaman and not have to worry about what other characters are doing in their films and how that would affect us," the director explained. "I just thought the simplest way was to keep it clean — keep it simple and let it be an Aquaman story."

While we might not see anyone else from the Justice League come in to assist Arthur in his battle again Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson), there is still a good chance that we'll at least get a reference to the wider DC Universe.

But what do you folks think of Wan's comments? Did you want to see heroes like Wonder Woman and Superman to appear? Make sure to share your thoughts in the comments below.

Sounds good to me. Focus on Aquaman, and don't worry about the universe around him. Just make a good film.

Does this need to be explained or justified?

The less Zack snyder DCEU bogs down the movie, the better.

@JohnGrayson - "Aquaman" is the "Zack Snyder 'DCEU'". It has the same theme of hope rising in a world that seems devoid of it, the uniform designs is reminiscent of what was done on "Man of Steel", Snyder is producer, and the color is merged with a bit of darkness in certain scenes, just as it has been in all of Snyder's DC Films. It doesn't bog it down. As a matter of fact, it's the film's greatest strength. Especially with their decision not to include other heroes in the film. When Superman is in another hero's film, he overshadows that other hero. Same with Wonder Woman or any other hero. The focus should be on Aquaman in the Aquaman film. It's as simple as that.

They needed to focus more on the individual characters anyways. Hope this film works out. Outside of Wonder Woman, Aquaman might determine the life or death of this franchise.

Because the rest of the DCEU is pretty much shit

If Wan had it 100% his way, he probably wouldn't have even used Momoa. Just like Patty with Gal, but I actually like Gal as WW. Can't really say much for Momoa.

This is how it should be. Let every hero walk in his world. We don't need Aquaman to be a team up movie or a preview to the next film. When the JL isn't together, they're off in their own worlds, either in their day jobs or saving the world.

Because they are trying to pretend that film was never released. So are we.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - Well, most of us are trying to pretend it took place after Snyder's cut of "Justice League". Either way, it's frustrating, because we feel like we're missing something.

This is really great news and other movies should do the same. I don't care if the movie is Flash or Batman, just have Flash and his allies or Batman and his allies, there is no need for Justice League members in solo films, because seeing Kid Flash or Nightwing are better than Batman and Zatanna or Flash and Green Arrow.
