RUMOR: Black Manta Will Be The Villain In James Wan's AQUAMAN
It seems like we may have a beat on which villain will square off with Jason Momoa's Atlantean King in the James Wan-directed Aquaman and it's probably exactly who you thought it'd be. Come take a look!
If The Wrap is to be believed, then the Black Manta is coming to the DC Films Extended Universe in 2018 when the Jason Momoa-led Aquaman hits theaters worldwide.
The Black Manta has had a long and storied history with Arthur Curry, starting out in 1967 when he made his comics debut, so it shouldn't really come as a huge surprise that the Atlantean King's first solo feature would want to introduce his lethal archenemy. Warner Bros. declined comment on the matter, so no further details were provided and with the film nearly two years away, it's unlikely we'll hear any casting news till next spring or so.
Coincidentally, it was previously rumored that Common had signed on to play the Black Manta in David Ayer's Suicide Squad, but alas, that report was debunked fairly quickly when he was identified in set photos sporting a very different look and was later revealed as Monster T, an associate of the Joker's.
James Wan (Furious 7) is helming the project with a story from himself and DC Films co-runner Geoff Johns. Will Beall (Gangster Squad) penned the most recent draft of the script. Momoa is headlining the picture with a cast that includes Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko and, barring any unforeseen circumstances, Amber Heard (Magic Mike XXL) as Mera.
So, what do you guys think? If true, who would you want to see play the classic DC villain? Sound off with your thoughts below!
