BOX OFFICE: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Takes Aim At Mammoth $90 Million Weekend

Avengers: Age of Ultron will once again dominate the North American box office this weekend, with analysts predicting a haul of $90 million for Marvel's superhero sequel. That's a great number, and one which is helped by the fact that it has little to no competition. Reviews for the Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara comedy, Hot Pursuit, have been brutal and it's looking to take as little as $13 million over the next couple of days. Will Mad Max: Fury Road make a dent next week?

Regardless, after earning $191 million last weekend, Avengers: Age of Ultron is already rocketing towards the $1 billion mark worldwide, with an incredible $735.3 million to date. $235.7 million of that comes from North America, while $499.7 million hails from overseas (China still hasn't opened, so expect a big boost from that). It's thought that the sequel will intimately end up making more than The Avengers. How much more? That remains to be seen. Share your predictions below...

The hell with making articles about weekend projections twice in a week? How about we just wait and see what the real intake is instead of treating every weekend like its grand premiere?

Seriously though, these numbers are insane. With The Force Awakens, BvS, and SPECTRE on the way, we should get used to them too.

So I just came back from watching AOU in IMAX.

I'm left feeling kind of meh about the film. It's a well made film that does some things better then the first film and I love Ultron's overall plan but Ultron himself was kind of meh. Nothing special. When you think of it, Wanda did more to the Avengers than Ultron. Sure she was helping Ultron but it felt like Ultron wasn't much of a fighter.

ALSO HOW DID THAT ASIAN DOCTOR LADY WITH A HUGE WOUND ACROSS HER CHEST BLEEDING SURVIVE?!?!?!?! DOES NOBODY TRULY DIE IN THE MARVEL UNIVERSE?!?!?!

I'm probably gonna post a review tomorrow. I'm not sure whether it's better than 1 or not.

Also I could have sworn I saw a nip slip from Scarlet Witch. I saw it in IMAX 3D, I know I think I saw a nip slip in a scene.

"ALSO HOW DID THAT ASIAN DOCTOR LADY WITH A HUGE WOUND ACROSS HER CHEST BLEEDING SURVIVE?!?!?!?! DOES NOBODY TRULY DIE IN THE MARVEL UNIVERSE?!?!?!"

Im pretty sure she survived due to her being right next the that flesh regenerating machine she has. Just a guess. Maybe that's one of the things that got left on the cutting room floor

I need to see it in IMAX

@AsgardianHobo

Wasn't the flesh regenerating machine the thing Vision was in and Ultron took with him?

If so it wasn't in the room when she had that wound.

I probably would have gone to see it more already, but I pirated it last weekend and watched the bootleg three times. So I've seen the movie 4 times now.

Sorry, Marvel, but that's what you get when you don't have a simultaneous global release date.

@Levi

That was just the container the body was in. By the time they were trying to upload Ultron's conciseness, the flesh regenerator wasn't being used anymore.

When Hawkeye was getting treated, he wasn't in a giant container

Oh well, its all speculation anyways

ChaelPSonnen
ChaelPSonnen - 5/8/2015, 5:17 PM
why would you post this now?

First most box office analysts are predicting 75-85 Million, 90 million is to high, that would only be a 50% drop, The Avengers had a 50% its second week and AOU does have the Great reviews or great WOM The Avengers had.

Second, again why post this now like its news? literally in like 2 hours the Friday box office report will come in and actually confirm what AOU's second weekend will be.

lol you should of posted this like 5 hours ago

but still what "Box office analysts" are you referring to when you say "analysts predicting a haul of $90 million"???????

Box office.com isn't predicting 90 Million-
Avengers: Age of Ultron $84,000,000 $319,500,000

I cant find 1 b/o analysts that is predicting 90 Million

I know this sounds like a nitpick but did anyone find it funny how when the city was basically in ruins and Hawkeye and Black Widow were driving in a car to the life boat plane things that it was an Audi car? I mean I had a laugh that Hawkeye managed to find a car that nice in a city basically already in ruins.
