'The Hulk' Was Originally Supposed To Turn Grey In AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Remember that grey "Savage Hulk" Funko action figure which started doing the rounds some time ago? Well, it turns out that that version of the iconic character was supposed to make an appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron! Where in the movie and why didn't it happen? Find out here!

The following video takes a closer look at the work which went into bringing the Hulk vs. Hulkbuster fight to life in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it's revealed that the plan was for the Green Goliath to go grey during the time he spend under the control of the Scarlet Witch. A specific reason for that not happening in the movie isn't given, but it sounds like Marvel decided to keep him his original colour, possibly overruling Whedon's original plan. Who knows, but as merchandise was made for a grey "Savage Hulk", it might have been a choice made at a fairly late stage in production.

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Cobie Smulders, Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, James Spader, and Samuel L. Jackson and is now in cinemas everywhere!

Mark Ruffalo was given a real time CGI model that he could practice with the Hulks reactions? Wow

His colors were at least a little muted during that scene, which I noticed way back when the showdown was first shown in trailers. I always assumed it was a nod towards grey hulk, this kind of confirms that. But I'm happy they didn't really go grey, it wouldn't have felt the same.

Wasted opportunity.

Should've went grey. Would've been a cool way to give a nod to that version of Hulk.

Hulk probably had the worst CGI in this movie. Shame since he looked so awesome in the first movie.

I could totally see Whedon including the line, "Somebody call Joe Fix-it" after the Grey Hulk smashed into something in Africa.

When the Hulk is under the influence of Scarlet Witch he visibly gets bigger and has a more monsters look, which confirms that the Hulk has multiple forms. Hopefully we'll see Worldbreaker Hulk further down the line.

So that's why i thought he looked a bit grey in some of the early trailers.

Yea, I thought that was PIS.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, he was grayish in that fight. Or at least a dimmer green

@Th0r

You did notice that he had to constantly repair and get new parts delivered, right? But I agree that IM3 has some butter-soft suits

I thought Banner helped Stark design 'Veronica', so it would make sense that it would hold up better to a Hulk assault.

Save grey Hulk so he can fight Thing in central park when Marvel get the rights back if Tranks film bombs.

Oh shit, good point. They both designed "Veronica"

Loved the movie as a whole, but the lack of Hulk really disappointed me. Just my observations. Also hated how we didn't get to see him transform at all (besides the beginning where he reverts back). Every time there was a change, they cut away. Maybe it was for budget reasons, but I didn't like it one bit.

@Th0rOdinson 1. Tony's armour is made of a gold titanium alloy. The melting point of titanium is 1668 degrees Celsius. Extremis users can heat their bodies up to several thousand degrees meaning they'd be able to tear through the suits with relative ease.
2. The Iron Legion in IM 3 was made up of individual armours created for specific purposes. A lot of them were search and rescue or construction, so they weren't exactly built to withstand a battle with an army of superhumans. It really doesn't hurt to use your brain.

There was a theory he would, so I guess it was true.

I want to know who's decision was it to make the Hulk not have a voice, just continue his existence as a lumbering mute ape.

@Robinhood i've heard rumors that William Hurt is set to reprise his role as General Ross in Civil War. He should become red hulk at some point.
Humby
Humby - 5/2/2015, 12:03 PM
@RobinHood @Th0rOdinson - rumor has it that a younger version of General Ross will appear during some of Ant-Mans flashback scenes. Fingers crossed it's true. And with other rumors that some of the Ant-Man cast will be in Civil War, hopefully they can get William Hurt to make a cameo. Betty on the other hand, probably not coming back.

They better release that extended version! Not just deleted scenes!

this was such an unnecessary fight in my opinion, the studio showing off with a gigantic CGI spectacle with no real outcome rather than more CGI and destruction.... so dramatic (sarcasm)
