AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - 10 Major New Details You NEED To Know
A wealth of Avengers: Infinity War details have been revealed over the past month or so and we take a look here at those and more to gather up the ten biggest new pieces of information you need to know.
Heading into Comic-Con, we knew a few different bits and pieces about Avengers: Infinity War but it wasn't until that first trailer leaked online - an in-depth breakdown of which you can find by clicking here - we finally gained an idea of what's to come in the highly anticipated 2018 release. Since then, the cast and crew have revealed a wealth of fresh intel about the sure to be epic battle against Thanos.
Bringing together Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Infinity War is set to be the culmination of a decade's worth of storytelling as the Mad Titan finally looks to bring together the Infinity Stones. So, what do you guys need to know about this incredible sounding movie? Below, you'll find the ten biggest details about what to expect and an analysis of what all that means.
10. It's Going To Be A Heist Movie
Based on what we've seen from Avengers: Infinity War, you'd be forgiven for thinking that we'll be getting two solid hours of action as Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy go to war with Thanos. However, co-director Joe Russo has made a startling revelation about the tone he and Anthony are striving for here and chances are it won't be what you expect.
According to the filmmaker, it's structurally going to be like a 90s heist thriller so that probably means we can expect the majority of action to take place around the Avengers and Guardians trying to get to the Infinity Stones before Thanos. Based on what we saw in that leaked trailer, though, there's a very good chance that the Mad Titan will get his hands on the majority of them before all is said and done as he's shown there powerful enough to crush a planet with a wave of his fist and hurl what's left at the heroes.
9. It Might Not Take Long For The Avengers To Reunite
When we last saw The Avengers, they had been split right down the middle due to the events of Captain America: Civil War. Iron Man had been left with a depleted roster and Steve Rogers was breaking his team out of a high-security prison so there's definitely a rift there. However, it very much sounds like Thanos' invasion is going to be what brings them back together. The leaked trailer was careful not to show any major reunions, though we do know that The Vision and Scarlet Witch will be reunited.
In fact, it was Paul Bettany who recently revealed that the heroes have bigger fish to fry than the Sokovia Accords so chances are we can expect to see them put their differences aside to tackle a greater threat. That could happen fairly early on and it's entirely possible that it won't all be smooth sailing but it makes sense for Marvel to use this movie to repair the team's tattered relationship as we move into Avengers 4 and then Phase 4.
8. Captain Marvel Won't Be Making An Appearance
For quite some time now, we've all assumed that Brie Larson's Carol Danvers would be introduced in Avengers: Infinity War and that it would be in this cosmic adventure that her origin story is revealed ahead of the Captain Marvel movie in 2019. Comic-Con confused matters with the revelation that the fan-favourite's solo outing will take place in the 1990s during the Kree/Skrull War.
Any sort of appearance from her in this superhero ensemble would obviously ruin what becomes of her there so it probably won't shock you to learn that co-director Joe Russo recently revealed that Captain Marvel won't be making her presence felt in Avengers: Infinity War. There's nothing to say that she won't show up in the currently untitled fourth instalment but it could be that it will be necessary to reveal her fate in her own movie before she finally teams up with Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
7. It Will Be One Of Marvel's Longest Movies To Date
You don't need us to tell you that Avengers: Infinity War is going to be huge but co-director Joe Russo revealed in a recent interview that we can expect it to be at least two and a half hours long, if not slightly more. That's significant for a blockbuster (and particularly a superhero movie) but the filmmaker understandably justified that by stating that it's the culmination of a decade's worth of storytelling and needs room to breathe.
That's not the only interesting comment from the filmmaker either both he and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige have told fans that they should expect Avengers: Infinity War to deliver big stakes and that pretty much no one is safe. That's right, death could be coming for Earth's Mightiest Heroes but that was probably to be expected after Thanos effortlessly threw Iron Man and Thor around in the trailer. It even appears as if Spider-Man could meet his maker in the movie based on that.
6. The Leaked Trailer Doesn't Actually Spoil The End Of Thor: Ragnarok
One of the many theories in regards to why Marvel hasn't released the Avengers: Infinity War trailer is because the opening sequence features the Guardians of the Galaxy finding the God of Thunder floating through outer space. That seemingly spoils the end of Thor: Ragnarok and ruins the hero's final fate there but a whole lot could have happened between the two movies, something which has been emphasised by Taika Waititi.
The director recently confirmed that the trailer doesn't spoil his movie and that now leaves us with a lot of questions about what's going to happen to Thor. Official artwork and set photos have pointed to him getting Mjolnir back while others have indicated that he'll wield a massive axe instead. Either way, it's been said that we should expect Thor and Star-Lord to be quite the comedy pairing, so chances are he spends most of this movie hanging out with the Guardians. Well, when he's not getting his head bashed in by Thanos that is!
5. The Balance Between Earth And Space
Perhaps one of the most exciting things about Avengers: Infinity War is the fact we're going to presumably see the Guardians on Earth and Captain America and company heading into outer space. In a recent interview, co-director Joe Russo addressed the balance between those two settings in the movie and confirmed that we're getting a "good mix" of both.
The leaked trailer appeared to show Iron Man, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, and Doctor Strange on another world so characters being taken out of their comfort zone seems like a certainty. With the Infinity Stones scattered all over the place, it's obvious that Avengers: Infinity War will be taking us all to a variety of location and if comments from Mark Ruffalo are to be believed - we're still not sure whether he was joking or being serious - Earth's Mightiest Heroes are finally going to take a trip to Asgard!
4. It's Set FOUR Years After The Events Of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
The Guardians of the Galaxy are only expected to have a supporting role in Avengers: Infinity War but it definitely sounds like the movie will set the stage for their next adventure in a big way. That probably has something to do with the fact that James Gunn is serving as a producer and keeping a close eye on the character's he made famous but Groot growing up isn't the only change on the way (the filmmaker also recently revealed that Groot is not actually a teen on that poster for the movie).
A total of four years will have passed by the time we catch up with the Guardians again since we last saw them and that's bound to have shaken things up for the team. Peter Quill will have probably recovered from the death of Yondu and that big revelation about Ego the Living Planet and Mantis will have been with the Guardians for quite some time. Seeing how all that's changed their dynamic promises to be very interesting indeed.
3. Thanos Will Have Backup From The Black Order
Set photos and rumours swirled for months about the possibility of The Black Order appearing in Avengers: Infinity War but that was finally made official at Comic-Con, albeit with a twist. Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, The Ebony Maw, and Black Dwarf (renamed Cull Obsidian) were all shown off at the event and it's been confirmed that, like Gamora and Nebula, they're the "children" of Thanos.
That's obviously going to make their interactions with those two Guardians extremely interesting and the photos mentioned above actually showed them targeting both The Vision and Scarlet Witch. Co-director Joe Russo has said that the powers of this foursome - there's no sign of Supergiant - have had their powers altered to better serve the story so we don't know exactly what to expect right now beyond the fact that they're hunting for the Infinity Stones at Thanos' behest.
2. Captain America Is Nomad
One of the most exciting reveals to come out of Comic-Con is the fact Captain America will be rocking a beard in Avengers: Infinity War. Now, that admittedly doesn't sound like a huge deal but it's what this means for the hero here is what should be grabbing your interest. Steve Rogers left his shield with Iron Man at the end of Captain America: Civil War and seemingly have up his patriotic alter-ego to go on the run with his fellow Avengers and when he return in this movie, it will be as Nomad.
That name hasn't been batted around and is probably unlikely to be used but he's wearing a costume which bears a striking resemblance to that even if it is essentially his Captain America suit without any mention of the country he loves or The Avengers. In the leaked trailer, Cap could be seen arriving in Wakanda to seemingly help Black Panther and Bucky battle off an alien threat so that's probably where we'll first catch up with him.
1. Avengers 4 Starts Shooting Any Day Now
The original plan was for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 to shoot back to back but that was altered for logistical reasons. The cast and crew haven't been given too long to relax, though, as it's been confirmed that shooting on the untitled fourth instalment resumes around a week from now, possibly starting in Japan. Josh Brolin has confirmed that he'll be making his return as Thanos (proving that he's not defeated during his first encounter with the heroes), while Dave Bautista has also said he'll be coming back as Drax.
Beyond that, Marvel is obviously keeping the other returning cast members a closely guarded secret and we still have no idea whether to expect more casting additions to be made over the coming weeks and months. With any luck, set photos won't spoil too much of what's to come in Avengers: Infinity War next year!
