After his debut in the first Avengers back in 2012, Thanos will finally be playing a significant role when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters this month. And, despite having a smaller presence in previous Marvel films, the Russo brothers have repeatedly said fans can expect the Mad Titan to be a focus in Infinity War.
However, just how much we’ll learn about the villain’s past still remains a mystery. Currently, we’ve only glimpse what appears to be a flashback to when the Titan first met Gamora.
In recent interview with Total Film magazine (via Games Radar) half of the film's directing duo, Anthony Russo revealed some more details on what fans can expect, and the answer might surprise you. “We were considering showing [Thanos’] backstory, but ultimately felt it wasn’t necessary for the movie.” Anthony Russo explained, before reaffirming that the film will still be largely “told from his point of view.”
In addition to his comments about the film’s antagonist, Russo briefly talked about one of the film’s heroes that hasn’t been getting a lot of attention: Hawkeye. “All will be explained when people see the movie." Russo said, once again, hoping to reassure fans, "It’s all tied into the story.”
While the director's comment clearly doesn’t provide any more insight on the archer’s role in the film, it does once again remind fans that the Avenger will indeed have a presence in the film — even if he's not in any of the marketing.
