Does A Trading Card Reveal A WWII Flashback In MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS?

A new Marvel's The Avengers trading card from the "Upper Deck" set seemingly reveals that we will get to revisit Captain America in WWII. Hit the jump to check it out.

I'm not sure about you guys, but I most definitely don't remember this scene from Captain America: The First Avenger. In fact, it resembles none of the scenes or locations from the film, making it likely that this is indeed from The Avengers. With past rumours indicating that Derek Luke (Gabe Jones) would appear in the film, this trading card could be confirmation that the Second World War WILL be revisited. While some of other costume cards from this set have used images from the solo movies, it seems unlikely that they'd dedicate a full card with an old unused image. What do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

Marvel Studios presents "Marvel Avengers Assemble"—the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Ramanoff/Black Widow
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Tom Hiddleston as Loki

RELEASE DATE: April 26th, 2012. (UK) May 4th, 2012. (US)

Hmmmm... intruiging. I heard somewhere that the opening will include a montage that fills the audience in on the events of past marvel films, I wonder if this will be part of that montage?

I bought a pack of the Avengers movie cards last night and got a card that has a swatch of Thor and Loki's costume in the card.

I personally think Whedon could have kept Caps WW II helmet and just updated the rest of the suit.

Cool! If true this pretty much confirms that casting of a WWII soldier seen in IMDB.

WW2 suit was really good. They could've gone to a more modern warfare soldier suit for the new captain looks. But I think so far any footage of the new suit is also good.

I would have to watch the part again, but it kind of looks like when they are filming propaganda in TFA- not actually when he is in the war.

An unused scene from the movie handed over to Whedon, maybe? It'd be an interesting place to see a deleted scene. StrangerX: I agree completely!

@NextHero08 - you really must have slept in the theater if you lost the 2 year montage RIGHT IN THE [frick]ING MIDDLE OF THE MOVIE.

I don't think Whedon would be against direct nods to the other movies. He even brought Pepper in from Iron Man, so why not?

This wasn't the propaganda filming scene because Cap didn't have this suit at that point. He was still wearing the USO suit.

Why wouldn't you do nods to the other films? Isn't that kind of the point in doing the other films and them leading to this? It creates some continuity. It would be most interesting to see them redo some of the scenes from The Incredible Hulk with Ruffalo filling in for Norton which would help to better link that film to the rest of the MCU.

Perhaps it starts with a quick flashback of Captain America in War World II, and then moves to him being found and unfrozen (like in the images we've seen). Then, it moves again to the scene with Steve punching the bag, Fury approaches him, and then we get to see the title, etc., etc.

Cool probably the montage. Which is very cool IMO.

HatersOfCap'sNewCostumeInTheAvengers Really? Complain about this again? It looks great in motion just like TFA:

And it looked great on this poster:

It will look amazing on film, just as TFA suit did and everything will be fine.

So can we stop the hate now please?

You know, I was one of the first ones to voice my dislike of Cap's Avengers costume...but I must say the more I see it the trailers and such I does look pretty good. Also, according to the Ryan Meinerding interview in France he stated that they tried to film the cowl with exposed ears and it wasn't working or something was right with it so they designed this helmet look. I'm ok with that...if Joss tried to do it and for one reason or another it wasn't going to work then I'm ok with the change.

The "flashback" scene is probably one of the Cap scenes that got cut by Whedon. Recall that he's cut over a half hour of film, and shifted from telling the store from Cap's perspective to something more broadly focused.
skidz
skidz - 3/21/2012, 8:19 AM
About the only problem I have with the modern costume is that he looks like he's wearing a turtleneck. If it looked more separate I think it'd much better, it'd would've been a good excuse to keep the chinstrap.

Weren't there rumors a while ago that the film started with a WW2 flashback? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Someone should do a quick mock up of the First Avenger helmet on The Avengers costume for curiosity's sake.

About Halloween costume: What ever. It looks more like the original costume, which is what most wanted. So yeah.

About chin strap: Most didn't want the chin strap because most thought it looked awkward in TFA so they took the chin strap off... so yeah. Besides his original costume looks much like that... so you really can't blame them.

Trust me by the time Cap 2 comes around, everyone will be begging for his Avengers costume. It's really quite amusing how you people think... :P

Anyway if there are anymore haters:
