At the press junket for The Avengers, Marvel Studios' President of Production Kevin Feige revealed some updates for The Guardians of The Galaxy, a project that along with Ant-Man, Black Panther, Luke Cage, Namor, The Inhumans and Dr. Strange could very well be the other 2014 movie that gets released with the Captain America sequel. Feige confirmed that the upcoming film will portray the modern incarnation of the team, which includes such intergalactic superheroes as Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot and fan favorite, Rocket Raccoon.

QUESTION: When asked about which non-sequel projects Marvel Studios was prioritizing at the moment, Feige said, "I think whether it's Ant-Man, or Dr. Strange, or The Inhumans, or The Guardians of the Galaxy..." To which we eagerly cried, "Rocket Racooooon...!"

FEIGE: "We are very excited about bringing things like that, maybe things exactly like that, to the screen. [...] When you tell people, you know what would be really cool? This movie, and there's a raccoon, and there's a tree... And they go, 'What?' And people like you know what it is, and get excited. And the majority of people go, 'Did you say a raccoon and a tree?' 'Oh yeah, they're going to steal the whole movie. They're hilarious.' 'Okay, I'll believe it when I see it.' I like that."

QUESTION:When asked to confirm that an upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie would be focused on the new team, as opposed to the original team, created in 1969 which had their own well-received series from Jim Valentino in the 1990s, he clarified:

FEIGE: "Yeah. It's more Star-Lord and Drax and Gamora, and less Vance Astro and that team."

QUESTION: And when specifically asked if it is the second Marvel 2014 film to be released alongside the Captain America sequel...

FEIGE: "We know what our second movie in 2014 is going to be, but we haven't announced it yet."

I wrote a detailed article a few months back about all the different directions Marvel could go in 2014 back in September. Check it out. Recently, Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo spilled the beans [reportedly to the fury of Feige] about another scene they're shooting right after The Avengers premiere and many speculate that it will be for the second 2014 Marvel movie.

The Guardians of the Galaxy are a fictional superhero team that appear in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The Guardians first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy (vol. 2) #1 (May 2008).

In the aftermath of Annihilation: Conquest, Star-Lord decides to form a team of interstellar heroes that will be proactive in protecting the galaxy, rather than reacting to crises as they happen. To this end, he recruits Adam Warlock, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Phyla-Vell (the new Quasar), Rocket Raccoon, and Groot, with Mantis as support staff. On the recommendation of their ally, Nova, the group establishes a base of operations on the space station Knowhere, which possesses a teleportation system with near-universal range. An intelligent, telepathic dog named Cosmo is Knowhere's chief of security and works closely with the new team. After a confrontation with the Universal Church of Truth, the team's meets a semi-amnesiac man who identifies himself as Vance Astro - Major Victory of the original Guardians of the Galaxy. Astro's declaration inspires the as-yet-unnamed team to adopt the "Guardians of the Galaxy" name for their own. When the team learns Star-Lord directed Mantis to telepathically coerce the heroes into joining the team, they disband.

If they don't pull a Green Lantern or Thor (Though, Thor made since) and base it completely in outerspace/other realms, Guardians could work extremely well, it would be the actual sci-fi movie people love to watch, like Prometheus and Star Trek. And Drax The Destroyer is a badass mofo!I think it's Ant-Man 2014, If that scene they're filming tonight is a cameo, which is unlikely, and that tweet by Edgar is in fact pertaining with Ant-Man, then his movie is gonna be 2014.

If the public can except lanky smurfs from a planet called pandora and shit like unobtainium I see no reason why they can't except it.

Female Captain Marvel either Phylla Vell or Carol Danvers

I hope the 2014 movie is Black Panther, I mean they've already given us enough easter eggs already;

1. Iron Man 2 Tony and Nick are talking at the end and you see a map pointing to somewhere in Africa.

2. Captain America: TFA, Vibranium is brought up.

3. The Avengers, Quinjets are used

They either need to make the film already or stop using stuff that surround that character.
JohnTom88
JohnTom88 - 4/13/2012, 4:08 AM
Quinjets don't need to have Black Panther making it. Movie Quinjet is probably designed by Tony Stark.

If they do that then I'm gonna be pretty ticked off, but I don't think thats the case.

Hey SharkKnight You know what's funny, Marvel may get some ideas from other companies, but they care enough about their characters to get them represented on screen, haha, I will bust out laughing when a Nova movie comes out, especially if it's before a JLA! That would be the day!

weren't the GotG formed in the aftermath of the annihilation story line. so if they are going to form the gotG in a similar way they are going to need a huge galactic event, hell for all we know the annihilation wave could be wreaking havoc amongst the stars during the the entire phase 1 MCU timeline.
@Marvel72 agreed. good way to introduce Nova (a solo movie would awesome though), Adam warlock, thanos and a lot of badass characters.

Hmmmm maybe the extra scene they were gonna film last night has something to do with one of these movies

If the spoilers circulating concerning the after credits scene are true, then the basis for Adam Warlock and a Guardians film has already been hinted at.

Thanos had a cameo last night so Gaurdians of the Galaxy may be possible in 2014 and we may get a 3rd movie in the same year

@TheSharkKnight why are you even on marvel movie pages if you couldnt give a rats arse about em? most of the ppl on CBM who are familiar with you, know what ur going to say, hell you could just post a blank comment and we will still get the message, we get it ur a DC fan and despise anything marvel.
And nova is definitely capable of holding up his own solo movie and series.
1st movie: Richard rider gaining the nova powers and learning how to use them (well the basics), taking on Zorr, zorr gets teleported to Dey's Nova Prime Space Ship and killed, nova takes on the Condo, Powerhouse, Diamondhead all of whom are planning on taking down a higher power. end credit scene shows the sphink positioning his chess species

or the final confrontation of the all four villians and nova can take place in the first movie as well idk.
Ace101
Ace101 - 4/13/2012, 5:32 AM
hell the curroptor could be introduced in a Nova movie.

Actually that was the second encarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy. The first team is from the 31 century, but yes the Guardians of the Galaxy did form after Annhilation Conquest
Ace101
Ace101 - 4/13/2012, 5:44 AM
@JackJNapier cheers mate, though i already knew that :P
you know instead of being formed in the aftermath of cataclysm they could go the 69' route and form the modern team to stop the actions of the badoon. just an idea.
Ace101
Ace101 - 4/13/2012, 5:50 AM
@TheSharkKnight who said he wins? The thing about Nova is that he lost almost every battle he was in, he was also failing in school and his family was being torn apart. He did not even win the final confrontation, The Sphinx saw Novas drive to stop him even though the odds were not at all in Novas favor, and let him be. the sphinx could have killed him with a flick of his finger but did not. The sphinx later revealed he needed him alive for a more mischievous plot.

@Sharknight

Isn't that how all the marvel movies are done ?
Hero gets powers
Thor already had his powers
nope for incredible hulk. well yes and no if you wanna include that little montage at the beginning.

hero learns how to control powers
Thor didnt need to learn how to control his powers.
Incredible hulk- kind of self explanatory

Hero fights villain
yes doesnt that happen in all cbms, dnt tell me you just thought that happened in marvel movies :o lets see Green lantern, superman, BATMAN are some good DC examples.

Hero wins
Thor did he win? No he lost his brother and lost whatever connection he thought he had to jane.
Cap didnt win, red skull got his ass teleported away amd cap got frozen for 70 years, and has lost everyone he knew.

Ant-Man or Dr Strange, and I'd say it's Dr. Strange. The Inhumans and Guardians are both big, team movies, which are really hard to do, expensive, and the foul taste of Green Lantern is still in people's mouths. Marvel will go smaller, more character oriented. Dr. Strange....

Ace101
Ace101 - 4/13/2012, 6:28 AM
@CapMO couldnt agree more.
80sFace
80sFace - 4/13/2012, 6:29 AM
And if they filmed an extra scene, it'd have to be the simple and contain no special effects -- not enough time to render something big. I think it's a joke, personally, but if they did film something, I'd say very minor.
Moriarty117
Moriarty117 - 4/13/2012, 6:30 AM
Sorry guys, I'm a huge Marvel nerd (comparatively to my friends and the general population) and I have had no desire to read anything about the Guardians of the Galaxy. When I hear about "Rocket Racoon" and "a telepathic dog named Cosmo" I get turned off by the sheer wackiness. I assume modern film audiences will too. I really don't think i'll watch something with a raccoon in a spacesuit. And considering the reaction to the last space-based hero who actually had mainstream popularity, I doubt people would see this. Keige is trying to appease the fanboys, this will not ans should not ever happen.
Ace101
Ace101 - 4/13/2012, 6:49 AM
@Moriarty117 im sorry its hard to digest that at this day age with all the talking animal movies and games like ratchet and clank (very popular by the way for like 15years) the public wont accept a baddass alien horde killing raccoon that is an accomplished starship pilot, an excellent marksman with the two laser pistols he carries as well as having an affinity for heavy weapons. He's also an excellent military tactician and leader XD

question for those who read the comics: o the characters ever interact with the Marvel A-Listers, like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, etc.?
