How I hope The Amazing Spider-Man (or any Spider-Man) joins the MCU (If he does)

How I hope The Amazing Spider-Man (or any Spider-Man) joins the MCU (If he does)

First an opinion on whether or not he should be, And then the best possible way to bring him in there. And yes I have heard your plea, there are no pony references in this article, you killjoys.

First and foremost, should Andrew Garfield be the Spider-Man to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe? My answer is yes. By the time MARVEL get's the rights back, a lot of the actors will be older and it will be time to reboot the MCU.
This MARVEL Cinematic Universe is probably the best thing that could happen to CBMs, and seeing Sony and Disney put corporate greed aside to give fans what they want, would go down in cinema history.

The possibility of it happening is mostly shown by the fact that Kevin Feige hasn't crushed nor confirmed the rumor yet, he's obviously helping people board the hype train.

The question is how should they do it?

Well here is my idea. I've shared this idea before, but for this article I've made major alterations

Primarily, TASM should take place after IM3, this would explain all the cranes, and explain why Iron Man wasn't helping to fight the Lizard.

First, combine the universes with a lot of subtle references (To catch the comic book fans) and some very direct ones (To catch the general audience) in Amazing Spider-man 2. Be it a headline about the events of a MCU movie in the news paper, or just someone mentioning the name "Stark".

This shows that they are in the same universe, but just haven't interacted yet, plus this is how MARVEL combined their cinematic universe before Avengers came out.

Now comes the hard part, introducing him into the MCU without the angry fanbase saying he became an Avenger too early and that it doesn't make sense.

Here we go, yet again we have to take steps, just like when they built the MCU. Put him in the second Avengers, like Thor have Spiderman not be part of the Avengers initiative, but instead CAREFULLY TAKE AIM and throw him in some how. By carefully take aim, I mean have it make sense.

I believe the easiest way to do this is have a battle take place in New York mid-movie. In TASM2, Spider-Man could swing his way in and kick a henchmen who is about to shoot the ever-living crap out of Thor from behind.

After we get an epic action scene in New York, spend some time developing his character, true he is a lot like Tony Stark, but he sees the world differently, have him argue with Tony about how it's his responsibility to protect his loved ones without need for publicity.

Finally, at the end of Avengers 2, he is asked to join the Avengers, but refuses, saying a speech SIMILAR to the following.

"You guys are this planet's soldiers, you guys have the responsibility of protecting the Earth, but me? My responsibility is in New York, to protect the ones I love and care about. I wear a mask to make sure they aren't harmed. Unlike you guys, I still have a family and friends to care for, and they are my top priority. Besides, after seeing you guys in action, I, for one, know you don't need me."

I'll be honest, and I'm sorry for this, but so far, I still haven't seen a single good idea of how Spider-Man should be introduced in The Avengers sequel - this, in all honesty, is not an exception. From what I've seen, it's always been rather corny, abrupt, and lacking of any depth, all in all. Yes, I do think that the character should NOT be included in the movie, as there are still characters that are actually relevant and essential to the team that should be more prioritized than the ol' webhead, and this friendly neighborhood hero is best as what he is, but a good idea can always change my view. However, I still remain unchanged.

Do I think that he should be included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though? Well, why not! He's considerably the most famous Marvel character, anyway, and it'd be great to see him being under the proper hands. Moreover, one of my biggest hopes is to see the Parkers being connected to S. H. I. E. L. D., just how it's supposed to be. So, yes to him being in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but no for him being in The Avengers sequel. Wait until they can introduce the New Avengers into the universe, perhaps, then we'll talk again.

I prefer Spider-Man to stay in the universe Sony has created.

If he makes an appearance in the MCU, I hope it's nothing more than a couple second cameo.

And furthermore, I hope the rights to Spidey *NEVER* go back to Marvel.

I'm with Jolt on this one.

For me, even if Spidey was a well established part of the MCU I would be uncomfortable seeing him as an Avenger. It's Spider-Man, never liked him as an Avenger.

Would love to see him a part of the MCU though, just in a rebooted fresh take on the character not associated with the Garfield films.

@amazingspideygal - May I ask why you don't want Spidey to go back home to Marvel?

Stupid idea, why would you even want that? It'll be like that newest cartoon where Spidey constantly teams up with bunch of lame heroes. So Utterly Pointless :/

I want Spider-Man to join the MCU, but as a lot of people, I want to to be good. Don't put him in the universe only because it's fun, he needs to have a purpose there, and it needs to feel natural, not forced.

While Spider-Man stays with Sony, I have no problem keeping him in his own universe too. Spider-Man has one of the richest universe and rogues gallery, there is still A LOT they can do if they won't join Spidey with the MCU.

So yeah, either way works fine with me.

@Ryden

I think Sony has made excellent Spider-Man movies, and continue to do so with the Webb films. I get extremely annoyed at constant sniping on these forums from people saying the films suck and hope the rights go back to Marvel. It's a mindless moronic battlecry, imo.

So while I'm sure Marvel would do make fine films if they did own the Spidey rights, I hope the rights stay with Sony because I like the job they are doing with the property, and I don't want the detractors (who I couldn't disagree with more) to get rewarded.

Plus, as many have said here, I think I think it would hurt the Avengers and Spider-Man each to cram him into the Avengers movies. It has never worked well imo.

@amazingspideygal - Fair enough, I like most of the sony films too, with the exception of Spider-Man 3 of course. I just think it would 'feel' better to have Spidey in the MCU, it feels a little empty without him y'know?

I couldn't agree more regarding the Avengers though, no need for him to be a part of that franchise, just having him in the Universe is fine with me. Spidey's always been better as a solo hero.

I think we're on the same wavelength!

Well, there are a couple reasons:

1. The continuity wouldn't make sense at all. Peter lives in New York City, which is attacked by Loki and the Chitauri in the first Avengers movie. It was also attacked by the Abomination in "The Incredible Hulk". Where was Spider-Man during any of this? Unless they went the "all the Spider-Man movies happened before the MCU-storyline even started"-route, it wouldn't make sense. If they DID take that route...then where is Spider-Man when New York needs him the most? They can't have these movies take place AFTER The Avengers either, unless they really wanted to force it down our throats.

2. What role could Spider-Man even have in The Avengers? A lot of his character traits are already seen in Iron Man -- technological genius, wiseass, deals with personal hardships by being a hero, etc. If they found a logical way to fit TASM into the MCU, we'd have a mini-Tony Stark, just with superpowers.

3. While most people would probably like to see a wiseass Spider-Man alongside Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, I find the idea cringeworthy. The two of them spewing sarcastic one-liners the whole movie would get infuriating. The Avengers knew how to balance the humor with the characters they were given because each character had a certain personality that kind of bounced off each other for a comedic effect. As MCU's Iron Man and TASM's Spider-Man have the same sense of humor, it would become redundant.

4. The Avengers is more about the heroes, while TASM is more about Peter trying to BECOME a hero. By the time of The Avengers, most of the main characters had their characterizations and origin stories, while TASM seems to be stretching the becoming of Spider-Man for more than just one movie.

5. Everybody Knows That Peter Parker is Spider-Man? No thanks!

6. Spider-Man -- as well as many of his villains -- are more personal and usually have very complex backgrounds and motivations. While most people may not give TASM a lot of credit for its story, I found it fascinating that the conflict between Spider-Man, Captain Stacy, and the Lizard seemed to be their different ways of carrying out justice. They all found flaws in humanity and attempted to change it in their own way. Spider-Man at first fought for just himself, but soon took responsibility for others even though he was at one point just an ordinary citizen. Stacy used the law to carry out justice. The Lizard saw humanity's flaws as something that needed to be changed by force.

In the Avengers, we have Loki as a villain and the main conflict between him and The Avengers is that he wants to destroy the world while they want to save it. And that's fine, it worked perfectly for the movie, but I think it'd be stupid to just forcibly change the themes we've seen in the first TASM movie in order to fit it into The Avenger's theme of good vs. evil.

So, yeah, I really think Spider-Man should be left out of the Avengers. Like, as a whole, until both franchises reach their ends and new ones begin.

Spider-Man in Avengers would ruin Spider-Man story, villains and wouldnt be so fun anymore if we knew that there are like 10 super heroes more in New York. Kinda stupid. And Oscorp? Spider-Man without mask and famous? NO, PLEASE!
FreedomFreeLife
FreedomFreeLife - 5/5/2013, 9:24 PM
Spider-Man works solo alone.

Solo:
Spider-Man has his own villains, story and girlfriend and secrets.

In Avengers:
Everyone knows who is Spider-Man. All villains from start now know it, everyone at Oscorp. Spider-Man can´t have a girlfriend because he is famous because everyone in New York knows that PETER PARKER IS SPIDER-MAN.
Spider-Man works for Tony and SHIELD? Think what this story would do to Norman Osborn and Harry Osborn. How Peter Parker can now work for JJJ? How he can go to collage when he is in Avengers.

Marvel ruined already Spider-Man cartoon. Spider-Man works best solo than a team. Same thing to Batman.
