Marvel Planning On Introducing New Characters With Short Films?

Apparently, Marvel Studios are planning on introducing a host of new characters to the big screen! Find out how after the jump...

Latino Review has an exclusive report on their site which claims that Marvel Studios are planning on bringing even more of their characters into the movie universe they started with Iron Man by using a series of 10 minute short movies to be shown in front of their upcoming feature length films. Whether this will happen as soon as next year with Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America is unclear but below is an excerpt from the site that indicates it's a plan that's already in motion:

"Got a scoop from a well trusted source that Marvel/Disney are looking at doing 10 minute short films in front of their feature length movies that will introduce secondary characters like Black Panther, Luke Cage, Dr. Strange, etc."

"I have no other information on this. Such as what movie they plan on starting this with (Avengers maybe?) or what character(s) they plan on introducing first."

What do you guys think of this? Personally, I'd love to go and see The Avengers and have a ten minute Ant-Man, Doctor Strange or Ms. Marvel (to name a few!) origin story beforehand! What characters would you like to see if Marvel Studios are indeed planning this? Have your say in the usual place!

Something like this could go a few ways - you could either get something insanely cool that would leave you wishing that the 10 minutes wouldn't end, or I think you could get something bromidic or contrived, like Nick Fury with Hasselhoff...

I trust them though :) And this would be the perfect way to get something with Moon Knight moving, even if it's just a TV series. I don't even know if Marvel Films has the rights.... Anyway. Fingers crossed :D

Good find, Josh!

So many choices, but...it's all about Winter Soldier!!!! They already have the actor/character signed...it would make a great short film before the Avengers.

Interesting way for Marvel to test which characters could translate best,by gauging reactions to ten-minute shorts...Ten minutes in length is also good for youtube,as well.. As to how to start..The immediate thought is Marvel Team-Up.But I suppose they could go anywhere with this idea. Tales Of Asgard with the Warriors Three? Heroes For Hire?Invaders?

It would be a great way to get past the origin stage of the stories so when the actual movie's come out they could just recap it in the opening credits and then get straight into the action :o)

awesome, i would love to see this. kinda reminds me of pixar, an how they always hav a short before their films. that has always been one of my fave things about those movies!

woo hoo!

I think it's a good alternative. And it'll save a lot of time that you could have wasted explaining the origins of that character; this way you can go straight to the action.

Like anything, it's all in the execution. I wonder if theyr're going to try to cast these characters for multiple movies before doing the short films.

If they can't make feature films with lesser-known CB characters, then I think this is a novel way of bringing them to film, which is what this site is all about.
Like PIXAR's short stories(without the cuteness), they could eventually collect & package them neatly to Blu-ray/DVD.
Look at that banner above: By the time Marvel get through with adapting half of THOSE characters, fanboys will be... fan-grandads!

Moon Knight, Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk please!!!

I think Dr. Strange would be a good one too. I know he's an important character, but the general audience has no idea who he is. So I actually think he would be a good candidate for it, even though i would LOVE to see a Dr. Strange movie.

Well thats how they did cartoons back in the early days of movies. You used to watch a short film on the war then a looney toons cartoon. 10 minutes is short to do much of anything with a CB hero. I guess you do a cool sequence of a hero putting on his outfit and saying 'lets roll'?

jallanr - 6/21/2010, 5:35 AM
number21-its looney tunes, not looney toons! lol. srry bout that, its jus one o my pet peeves. they`re called looney tunes because of how integral music was for the early ones :)

woo hoo!

Isn't this what Leterrier suggested a while ago?

Brilliant idea - go for it Marvel.

KeithM: I think your right about Leterrier suggesting this about a year ago. Regardless of who's idea it is, it's a good one.

To any who have yet to see them, check out my Avengers posters (( CLICK HERE )) and let me know what you think.

I think this would be excellent if they were using this to introduce characters who are gonna get the big movie treatment later on down the line.

Would also be a great way of putting all the elements in place for the feature. Will we see a 10 minute short made by Edgar Wright for Antman?? Would love to see that before The Avengers started.

I hope Pixar starts making some animated films off of Marvel characters. That would be awesome!
