The Avengers

In Empire Mag's latest podcast, Marvel Studios' top exec, Kevin Feige discusses The Avengers and touches on a few other elements in the Marvel Cinematic Universe including the fact that a lot of other studios [most likely Sony and Fox] wanted to use S.H.I.E.L.D. in their films and how Iron Man 3 will be different yet similar to previous Iron Man installments.
[Feige joins the podcast from 21:30 - 29:00]

--Talks about changing the title
-- Says a lot of other movie studios wanted to use S.H.I.E.L.D. in their super hero movies
-- Talks about Iron Man 3
--Discusses his favorite scene from The Avengers
---Talks about the Hulk, says he's like The Honeybadger

Interesting. All it would've took was a simple "Yeah, you can say Peter's parents were S.H.I.E.L.D. agents" to Sony or "Sure, you can touch on Wolverine relationship with Nick Fury" to Fox and we might have a drastically different MCU from the one we all know and love today.

The Avengers is an upcoming American superhero film produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is the sixth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and features an ensemble cast, which includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson. In The Avengers, Nick Fury, director of the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D., recruits Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to save the world from destruction.

Development of The Avengers began when Marvel Studios received a grant from Merrill Lynch in April 2005. After the success of the film Iron Man in May 2008, Marvel announced that The Avengers would be released in July 2011. With the signing of Scarlett Johansson in March 2009, the film was pushed back for a 2012 release. Whedon was brought on board in April 2010 and rewrote the screenplay that was originally written by Zak Penn. Production began in April 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before moving to Cleveland, Ohio in August 2011 and New York City in September 2011. The film was converted to 3D in post-production.

The Avengers is scheduled for release on May 4, 2012 in the United States in 2D and 3D.

ironknight, it would be too confusing to the mainstream audiences, especially if they had a different actor for Nick Fury. It would be like what Never Say Never was to the James Bond franchise.

If any other movie studios got a hold of the movie rights to S.H.I.E.L.D., then I'm not sure we would be able to see an Avengers movie in a long time (seeing as how S.H.I.E.L.D. plays a big role by putting the team together). Thank God Marvel acted quickly. :)

Stay EPIC, my friends!

Kurt Russell would be great for Marvel continuity Nick Fury - the painted cover for the Nick Fury vs. SHIELD TPB looks just like Russell. Great idea DanteSparda.

I always thought Bruce Campbell would have been a perfect Nick Fury. he's got that chin, and the smart-ass/bad-ass combination down to a tee. He would have been great.

But about other companies wanting S.H.I.E.L.D, I once listened to the commentary of "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer", and Tim Story was trying to get the rights to use S.H.I.E.L.D, and use the character of Nick Fury.

IT'S SIMPLE......"YOU WANNA USE S.H.I.E.L.D.? LET US USE SPIDER-MAN?" "LET US USE WOLVERINE?" etc etc... i mean come on. eventually someone will realise and ask..."Why does Nick Fury have Wolverine's claw marks on his eye?"

it wouldve been awesome to have seen Logan during the war scenes with Cap. or Cap during the war scenes in Wolverine. Or even a battle between Fury and Logan.
