Throughout phase 2 we were presented small teases of heroes to come. First a Stephen Strange mention in TWS. This was followed by AoU’s reference to Wakanda and the introduction of Ulysses Klaw, a villain responsible for the death T’Challa’s father’s. Many rumors had Mrs. Marvel included in the original script to AoU. Then there’s Spiderman. Though studio rights didn’t allow for a teaser in AoU we know he’s coming. So common sense would say that these four are the new Avengers of phase 3. But what about Phase 4? Who’s next? Marvel has for the most part done away with the traditional origin film. The M.O. is to introduce new characters in the movies of established properties. With that in mind who would you like to see teased or possibly introduced for future inclusion? I know who I want. So without further ado here’s my wish list of five heroes I want to see added to the Avenger’s roster.
BEAST
# 5. Hank is the least likely pick on my list, but it’s my wish list. So I’m wishing dammit. Henry Philip "Hank" McCoy first appeared In the Avengers In July 1975 and remained a member until Sept 1981. That’s 6 years as an active member. He only left briefly to help the X-Men in the three issue Dark Phoenix Saga series. The feral blue furred version of Beast we know today spent his formative years with the Avengers, not the X-men. Hank is a scientist specifically a geneticist something that could be useful as we move forward with the Inhuman Storyline. With the aging Henry Pym and Bruce Banners proclivity to disappear the team is in need of a replacement lab rat. Beast fits the bill. During his time with the Avengers Hank brought humor and a genuine sense of morality to the team. Plus he just looks badass on screen. The X-Men movies have done a solid job with him, and his fight scenes are excellent. His fight with Magneto in DoFP is my favorite part of the film. Now I know there are problems with this idea. More than the rights issue is the fact the MCU doesn’t have mutants. So to explain his powers and appearance, Beast’s origin would have to be radically altered. That won’t go over with a lot of fan boys. I guess in the end this is a nostalgia pick for me. I grew up with Hank on the team, and have many fond memories. Beast has 62 appearances as an Avenger. That’s 25 more than the Hulk! While it’s most likely not going to happen I can always wish.
SHE-HULK
# 4. if you’re a regular visitor to this site you’ve seen those Zernet click baits at the bottom of your articles. “Why marvel won’t make a She Hulk movie”. Well I don’t want a movie. I just want a few small appearances that lead to a supporting role on the team. I know CGI! CGI! It will be much too expensive. The cost can be avoided though if they focus on Jennifer first. Now many have read David Goyer’s derogatory statements about the character and I see his point. The portrayal of Jennifer Walters as a party girl has hurt the character. I believe She-Hulk has a lot of potential to be written in a positive manner which would make her a powerful interesting character. Couple that with the groundwork of her origin story being well established in the MCU. Her tie-in with The Hulk and now possibly Red Hulk make it easy for the general audience to accept her origin quickly with very little explanation. For those who don’t know or don’t remember she receives her powers from a blood transfusion provided by her cousin Bruce Banner. They can bring Jennifer in slowly a mention in Civil War, possibly as one of the Attorneys working on the registration act. Even better she’s an assistant DA that crosses paths with Matt Murdock in Daredevil Season 2. Then continue the tread with a small role In Spiderman. Again as an Assistant DA who’s an anti-hero/anti vigilante proponent. Quote her in the Bugle as one of the voices arguing that Spiderman is more of a menace than hero. She holds these positions because she has seen the destruction her cousin has done. With Jennifer firmly established in the MCU, she is seriously wounded by collateral damage during the Infinity Wars part I. Bruce should be back by now and the blood transfusion can take place. She would be available for the final fight vs Thanos, and set up for phase 4. I think it would be an interesting arc to take She-Hulk from a anti-hero advocate to a women dealing with powers she can’t control. Lastly don’t do away with her fun persona completely just tone it down a bit. It’s a nice counter balance to Black Widows cynicism and Scarlet Witches angst. In the end Marvel adds another female to the roster and the public gets a bit more smash. It’s a win for everybody.

SPIDERWOMEN
#3. Now let’s be clear here nothing pre Bendis. This is New Avengers territory. His version of Jessica Drew is perfect for the world the MCU has created. With a back story and origin involving Hydra and Shield, Spiderwomen has had interaction with so many of the Marvel character’s that she could be utilized as connective tissue. Much the same way Scarlet’s Black Widow is used. Possibly even as a bridge to a Netflix series. Jessica is also the finest looking women in the Marvel Universe. If they Cast Olivia Wilde to play her mmmmmm. Ah but I digress, back to the task at hand. If the rumors are true about Martin Freeman‘s role in Civil War the Avengers are going to England. What a perfect opportunity to give us our first glimpse of a former British agent who may or may not still be working for Hydra. I like the thought of her being a villain for a couple of movies. Her first major involvement could be in Black Panthers solo movie. Introduce her mentor the Taskmaster! Yup I said the Taskmaster. Again I digress back to Spiderwomen. Since Black Panthers public appearance in Captain America Civil War the powers that be have a renewed interest in the nation of Wakanda, and the activities of its ruler. As an agent of Hydra she attempts to infiltrate the nation and get close to the King. Eventually she is discovered and defeated by The Dora Milaje. Possibly Black Panther gets her to rethink her allegiances and abandon her mission. Broken and unhappy with whom she’s become. Jessica migrates to NY where Luke Cage and Jessica Jones help her road to recovery. We haven’t had a hero like this in the MCU yet. Marvel has glossed over Black Widow’s past. I want to see how a villain goes through the trials of earning her fellow Avengers trust. Spiderwomen is the type of story the MCU needs in phase 4. Oh yea and don’t forget Olivia Wilde mmmmm.

LUKE CAGE
# 2. The street hero I’d most like see become a Avenger is Cage even more that Spiderman. Every team needs someone like Cage. Luke is a no nonsense guy who will follow orders given by those he respects like Cap, and ask the tough questions that need to be asked as well. He understands the street and working outside the law. This makes him a healthy mentor for Spiderman and a respected ally to Daredevil. Like Scott Lang he may have a family by the time we get to phase 4. One of the complaints about the MCU is that there is nothing to lose. Luke’s confrontation with the Purple Man in New Avengers #3 is just the type of drama a Marvel movie needs. From an entertainment standpoint The Avengers needs a big bruiser to fill in in Thor’s absence. Now there’s a lot of Luke’s story still to be told on Netflix. The Defenders and Hero’s for Hire come to mind. But The Infinity Wars is a solid place to start the interaction with the Avengers. Like Spiderwomen his history with the team is relatively recent. But it’s fresh and diverse which the CBM genre will need to continue. Call him up to the Show Marvel! He won’t disappoint.

WASP
#1. I
hope (pun intended) this is set up to happen, and while she may just be a new version of Pepper, just a hero’s girlfriend. I really want Evangeline Lilly to be the Wasp. First To fans of Janet what can I say we know she can’t appear in the MCU, and I feel your pain. I’m going to move forward with Hope taking the Wasp role. The Avengers are incomplete without her. We have Ant-Man on the team. Now I know it’s not Pym, that’s an argument for another place. At least Scott softens his absence. Plus I feel that Wasp presence is more important than his in the MCU. Only Cap, Ironman, Thor and The Vision have appeared with the Avengers more Times than the Wasp. She has appeared 282 times, and Hank only has 42 appearances. She has been the leader or Co-leader of the Avengers four times. As the leader she made a point to Increase the number of women on the team and personally recruited She-Hulk and Mrs. Marvel. You want diversity Marvel here she is. She named the team for god sake! What more does this lady have to do to be included. It’s time to be bold Marvel let her lead the team into the future. As Hanks Daughter have him advise her and still provide tech. It’s not perfect but it keeps him alive as well. I guess we’ll know in a month if this is true.
Hope it happens.
Well there’s my list. Before I wrap it up I have to say writing this really made realize how pissed I am at Whedon’s choice to kill Quicksilver. I almost put him on the list in protest. He’s in two X-Men movies and dead in The Avengers ugh … That was a bad move Marvel fix it! Ah the ramblings of a fan boy. Anyway what do you think do you have better choices?
Discuss it Debate it or Destroy it. Thanks for reading
