Will Kevin Feige Ever Leave Marvel Studios? "I’m Here For A While..."

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has already hinted that they're thinking about "Phase 3" plans for the likes of Doctor Strange, but will he still be involved at that point? Check out what he had to say about his contract with the studio after the jump.

All anyone has understandably been able to talk about recently is whether or not Robert Downey Jr. will sign another contract with Marvel Studios to return as Tony Stark/Iron Man. We still don't know the answer to that, but how about Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige? Loved by fans for making the creative decisions which have led to a Marvel Cinematic Universe, many would surely be left very worried about the future direction of their movies without him overseeing things. When asked by Collider about exactly that, Feige said: "My contract negotiations are not nearly as exciting as Mr. Downey’s. I’m here for a while, certainly through Phase Two. [The] truth of the matter is, I always sort of set a goal or set a horizon line and look towards that. For a long time it was X-Men 2 and then for a long time it was Iron Man and Incredible Hulk – are we going to be a studio by then or not? Is it going to work or is it not? Then it was Avengers, now it’s Avengers 2. So, two years after that, three years after that, I can’t even begin to guess." I'm sure you'll all agree with me when I say that I hope Feige will be around for well into "Phase 3" as well! After all, we're talking about the man who took an after-credits scene at the end of Iron Man and eventually turned that moment into a $1.5 billion blockbuster that's arguably the greatest comic book movie of all time. What do you guys think? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

Hope this guy never leaves. And when he does, hopefully someone similar to Kevin replaces him. Hope to see the MCU continue for decades.

He seems to really enjoy the job and he does it well. He gets the fans and understands the characters big time, he's as excited about doing Doctor Strange as we are!! Hope he stays for a long time, MCU is in safe hands

As great as they did with introducing the different characters in Phase 1 and bringing them together in Avengers, of course, they haven't done very good with sequels so far. IM2 was a huge decline after IM1 and IM3 doesn't come close to IM1 either. Hope Thor 2 will rock again. Otherwise I wouldn't mind Kevin leaving.

I agree with most here, hope he stays for a long long time. He has done an amazing job.

The guy knows the source material and has done a great job of balancing staying loyal to the comics and the changes necessary to make it work on film.

Also you guys have to keep in mind that he does have to produce for the company, meaning results and how much the company is willing to pay a star or director. He answers to other folk so when shit goes south with Favreau or Howard for example I wouldn't be too quick to blame.

KUDOS all around to Mr Feige

as much as people want to whine about some of the decisions he's made. You can't help but have a lot of respect for the guy. I mean he's one of the people who had the vision to take the MCU where it is right now.

You can't please everybody but at least we have the movies to look forward to.

he is doing good job. Hoping he won't turn into George Lucas someday :(

I like the way he is handling things (for now). Talking to directors, writers, approaching their point of view.

The only thing that is bugging me is that he seems to be a bit too much sure of himself. Guess his first big failure has yet to come.

I think Kevin Feige pretty much IS Marvel Studios at this point. It's sort of his baby, and in a way he's managed to revolutionize big budget blockbuster movies through actually making a cinematic universe happen for the first time, and with such success that other studios are now trying to emulate that. Gotta respect the guy for that. I can't think of another film PRODUCER at this point who's as well known as Feige in big budget blockbuster movies (the closest I can think of would be the Weinsteins, who do loads of very critically and commercially successful films, but they don't do many big budget blockbusters, except The Lord of the Rings films).

Short term goals that total up into one long term. Sounds legit. The formula has worked so far and Feige's done a solid job. Hope he sticks around as long as possible.

Please don't go, don't gooooooo and throw it all away!! Please don't gooooooo, I'm begging you to stay!!! The man is the guiding force that simple allows great film makers the freedom to make great films. Hollywood learn the lesson already. Even if he has to leave or even dies I hope Marvel keep that mantra going.

He's been great. No doubt about it. Whatever little twists & turns in certain movies that people may or may not like, in the end, his term will be considered genius.

This guy needs to leave. While he has contributed to the financial success of Marvel Movies, he has also contributed to the watering and dumbing down of the characters and the universe. The fans deserve someone in his position that is a true comic book fan and can create a movie that has all the comic book elements without being too cheesy.

BlackHulk@ That is impossible comic books by their nature and creation are meant to be a paper and book medium which means they dont translate 100% to the big screen.

congrats Kevin Feige! you are the main reason for marvels success. Avengers made 1.5 billion, Iron Man 3 seems to be on track to make 1.2 or 1.3 billion.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't like the idea of bringing the Dr Stange to the Avengers...
I mean, yeah, Thor, the aliens and the human high tech were fit perfectly in the Avengers, but intruducing too much magic to the plot... hmmm

I think Kevin has to see the fact that his management of Marvel Studios doesn't carry over well to other production companies, who don't have highly recognizable franchises from print publication spanning decades and don't have a box office juggernaut mix of properties with which to leverage in talent negotiations. He's here to stay for a long long time, folks.

Feige actually cares about the characters and the fans. He's built Marvel Studios into a reputable stable for filmmakers to come into and have some fun while producing quality product that pleases fans. With all of the plans and prep for the next few years, I don't see him leaving anytime soon, at least not entirely.

I'm not a fan of every decision he has made but when it comes to Marvel Studios since 2008, he has definitely had more wins than losses.

I do wish however that the MCU was a little less jokey. Not necessarily as Dark as Nolan's Batman, but every film doesn't have to be a comedy.

I agree, and while I dont expect every comic book movie to be 100% accurate, 15% accurate is a huge disappointment too. When I think of a franchise to compare Marvel movies to, I think of the Transformers franchise. While Marvel movies are nowhere near as horribly directed as the Transformer movies, the formula for financial success for these types of movies is to have the movie appeal to everyone outside of the traditional comic book base. True comic book fans are faced with the choice of either accepting the movie with the understanding that if a reboot actually happens, it wont occur until 10+ years down the line, or they can reject it.

I want Marvel Studios to do darker movies. I'm not talking crossover movies but, stand alones that acknowledge the shared universe.

Preferably these two.

Many comicbook villains are changed up from their original comicbook look. Now if it works or not is always a huge risk.

Even in the Dark Knight Films, Avengers, and any other appraised film they don't follow the comics like how Harry Potter follows the book, there's a lot of change they aim to attract both a crowd of comicbook fans and those who haven't seen the comics some things like Killer Croc and Robin in the next Dark Knight would cause a big split in true comicbook fans and Movie Fans, because suspending disbelief for that would take a lot if you haven't read the comic.

It's difficult to entertain a large audience of die hard fans, and those who just like action/drama/thriller movies.

There's very few comicbookmovies I see as awful because of that understanding and respect I have for the writers.

Worst Comicbookmovies of the last 10 years.
(No particular order)

Elektra, Ghost Rider (both), X-Men 3, Spider-Man 3, Green Lantern, Superman Returns, Watchmen, Hulk (2003), FF 2, AND Catwoman

THOSE are TERRIBLE films again some, more than others but thinking of films like this can you really be mad at what's going on in these films lately?

REALLY THINK ABOUT IT
