Gotham City: dark, dangerous, 'protected' only by a mostly corrupt police department. Despite the best efforts of D.A. Harvey Dent and police commissioner Jim Gordon, the city becomes increasingly unsafe...until a Dark Knight arises. We all know criminals are a superstitious, cowardly lot...so his disguise must be able to strike terror into their hearts. He becomes a bat. Enter Vicky Vale, a prize-winning photo journalist who wants to uncover the secret of the mysterious "bat-man". And enter Jack Napier, one-time enforcer for Boss Grissom, horribly disfigured after a firefight in a chemical factory...who, devoid of the last vestiges of sanity, seizes control of Gotham's underworld as the psychotic, unpredictable Clown Prince of Crime...the Joker. Gotham's only hope, it seems, lies in this dark, brooding vigilante. And just how does billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne fit into all of this?

My favorite part of Batman 1989 was when Batman tried to gun down The Joker.

@DextarDougles - The first is still the best... you just aren't going to top West with every major villain in the series.

@cinnamon - the head thing, and whatever is going on with the tail on the Batsymbol. It's telling they didn't even use that symbol on the promo materials or toys.

Badly written pile of crap that's been rightfully forgotten at large in the wake of Nolan's far more impressive products.

Bale is probably my favourite Batman, i don't like Affleck even if he could be a new batman, noe one can beat Christian Bale except Michael Keaton.

I was..............okay.........with what Burton did (if only because it wasn't that Adam West horseshit). Michelle Pfeiffer, Jack Nicholson, and Danny Devito were inspired. But, in my opinion, Burton's Batman doesn't really stand the test of time as well as I expect Nolan's to. In my opinion, Burton's visuals lent themselves to Schumacher's campiness and made Schumacher's abortions not too much of a "stretch" from Burton's designs (that sounded better in my head, doesn't it always?) I understand WHY people love Burton's version but, to me, it seemed as though Beetlejuice was going to show up, at any minute, to team up with Batman.

The genius of this movie is that it is timeless. Unlike Nolan's movies that have a very contemporary feel to it.

Batman '89 will be around long after we passed on from the Nolanverse.

[frick] practicality, this suit and this batmobile are still the quintessential iconic looking pieces of batman merchandise we've had.

Not even mentioning that Elfman's score can still send chills up my spine.

Batman 1989 will always be special for me. It was the first time I was seeing Batman on screen! It was also the first CBM for me. I was slightly upset with the Joker overshadowing Batman, but then how do you outdo Jack Nicholson? Also I still cannot accept Keaton as Bruce Wayne, though his Batman will always rank among the best. Burton's movies were like the Batman comics coming to life. His dark Gothic take was very appropriate - undoubtedly the way a Batman movie ought to be made.

This movie will never be a "classic" in my book. Far from it. Wrong director unfortunately and too bad because I think the writer kind of "got it"
