Warner Bros. recently released a few new images featuring the main characters of the upcoming direct-to-video film Batman: Under the Red Hood along with the film's official description:

Batman faces his ultimate challenge as the mysterious Red Hood takes Gotham City by firestorm. One part vigilante, one part criminal kingpin, Red Hood begins cleaning up Gotham City with the efficiency of Batman, but without following the same ethical code. Killing is an option. And when The Joker falls in the balance between the two, hard truths emerge and old wounds reopen.

DC Direct has also revealed their latest collectible sculpture of Red Hood, based off of the character from the animated film. The maquette is priced at $99.99 US and will be available for purchase July 7th, 2010:

The best part about this image is the close-up look it allows of the film's cover art; which also confirms the inclusion of a Jonah Hex animated short film:

Batman: Under the Red Hood is based off of the 2005 Batman storyline written by Judd Winick and illustrated by Doug Mahnke. Brandon Vietti directed the film; of which Winick himself wrote the screenplay. Providing the voices for the film are Bruce Greenwood as Batman, Neil Patrick Harris as Nightwing, and Jensen Ackles as Red Hood.

I loved this story arc and cant wait for this! However, the way that DC have since [frick]ed up the character in comparison to the way Marvel brilliantly handled the return of Bucky is just one of the reasons I avoid their stuff.

Talking of Marvel, anyone else worried about not having any official word about Evans playing Cap?

Wow the box cover is beautiful. I think thats the most effort WB has put into a cover from the DC Comics Direct DVD animated movies. Looking at the Batman still it just screams out Kevin Conroy is voicing the character, but he's not voicing the character this time. :( I don't understand why Bruce Timm and co, couldn't asked Conroy to do the voice. As long as Kevin Conroy is alive he should be voicing Batman/Bruce Wayne in all their animated movies. Fans are tired of other voice actors voicing Batman. They found the true voice of Batman/Bruce Wayne enough trying to convince the fans that other actors can do a great job voicing Batman as well.

Nothing against Bruce Greenwood, I know Greenwood is going to do a great job voicing Batman though, but if they got Kevin Conroy to do the voice of Batman for this movie. This would be a must for all comic book fans to buy.

I like the style. Red Hood reminds me a bit of The Batman, while Batman reminds me somewhat of late DCAU.

The Justice League Unlimited batman was the best animated batman ever, and the worst was Crisis On Two Earths. let's hope this batman's about better than COTE's

MULTI: Yeah, you're probably right man! He'd have to be nuts to drop out now and I think that he has the sense to see that playing Cap is going to propel him right into being one of THE biggest stars of today! I mean, he's already been in a pile of great films and is a well liked actor but look at the even better roles like RDJ and Bale got after playing Iron Man/Batman! :)

What's the press coverage in the US been like? There's been little to nothing here in the UK in the papers or TV but there very rarely is with this type of thing...I'm guessing that will change when it's confirmed by Marvel though!

MultiPurposePoni@: Hey I get what you're saying, and I agree with you. I don't know if you saw the Batman vs Predators And Aliens short film, but they did use the tights (dark grey and dark blue).

AND

It worked out pretty well I thought. The Batman still looked just as tough as he does under all that rubber P:).

$uperbucks@: I think DC's beating Marvel on all fronts these days, in both animation AND the big screen movies.

DogsOfWar
DogsOfWar - 3/23/2010, 9:21 PM
@abw2-How is DC beating Marvel at the big screen? GL and Thor is shooting right now, so thats a push. IM2 is right around the corner and Cap is moving forward with all things going to a unified Marvel Cinematic Universe. DC hasn't really gotten anything else off the ground and is keeping movies in their own separate universes.

At this point, Make Mine Marvel!

THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 3/23/2010, 10:42 PM
@Multi, That costume isn't "realistic" enough for them to use. So instead we get GI Bale. In the comics tehy say that he wears body armor, but that covers it. I mean at least consider the freedom of movement. He is supposed to be a fluid fighter, but Bale in the movies moves so stiffly in that bulky suit it is rediculous.
