BATMAN UNLIMITED To Be A Direct-To-Video Movie?

When BATMAN UNLIMITED was revealed at a licensing expo, most of us Bat-fans speculated that it would be the next Batman-centric animated TV series. Despite this, Legions Of Gotham is now reporting that it's really an animated movie. Hit the jump for more...

When the following banner was recently discovered at a lisensing expo, most of us believed Batman Unlimited to be the Dark Knight's latest animated outing on telivision.

Well, it's starting to look like this may just be his next animated outing on home video. According to a report by the news source known as Legions Of Gotham:

"Yep, this mystery image that showed up the licensing show..well, multiple sources have confirmed with me that it is in fact a direct to DVD feature coming soon!   You know, much like that one-off JLA Adventures DVD that was just out.  I say its the best of both worlds for fans.  Those that wanted it get it and those that didn’t can avoid it.  Win, win!"

Assuming this report is true, I imagine reactions among my fellow fans to be mixed. While some will probably be glad that this isn't a Batman show in hopes that another property will fill the DC Nation slot left by Beware The Batman, others will probably be disappointed that they won't be getting their weekly animated Batman fix. Let me know what you really think in the comments below!

The only positive of it being a tv series would be that it shows that drawn animation is not dead.

Thank God it's not a new show! Beware the Batman is awesome. I'd suggest people actually watch it before shitting on it. The CG style of it does a great job of drawing you in.

Also some of the best fight scenes I've seen in an animated show.

Personally, that doesn't bother me if it's animated show or not because i'll watch it anyway, but i have to admit that i would prefer an animated show.

Not surprising. It will be aimed at a younger demographic just like the JLA one.

I absolutely hate how Marvel and DC tone down their characters for TV so its suitable for kids. When I first got into comics I was blown away by the level of violence in them (the T rated issues). Don't get me wrong, I [frick]ing love violence but I wanna see that same violence brought to the show as well. Like with Green Lantern: TAS, they changed the Red Lantern oath to be suitable for kids. The '90s kids shows were the only exception. Superman and Batman both had some very mature themes.

@GuardianAngel I didn't like the animation at all. I hated it. I watched the first several episodes and thought all of them were boring, except for the episode they brought in Anarchy. But I only liked it because of him. I'm glad that show is done for. I'd rather have another Batman show that is enjoyable.

I thought they said all of their new animated features would be directly related like a new DCAU? After the mixed to negative reactions of Son of Batman that plan backfired.
GuardianAngel

@TheSoulEater

The animation in Young Justice was mostly just the same style DC had been using since BTAS. It got old. The only new thing about it is that it was getting too close to anime territory. I hate anime. Beware the Batman is fresh and new. I can understand why purists wouldn't like it.

Should've kept watching. The show is kinda like Arrow. It gets a lot better as it goes on.

@Melkaticox AGREED, Avatar is bar-none the best

@GuardianAngel, forget animation for a minute, there IS good animation to be had in different mediums, HELL i love the animation in advent children.

But the choreography in Beware the Bat is choppy, rigid, and stick man prone, there's no flow to it and it's underwelming.

This fight from clone wars is a 3D medium, and it's choreography is great

When I say Young Justice and Avatar are better than Beware the bats, is because the actual FIGHTS are intense, gripping and flowing. Not ONLY relying on the fact that it's in 3D to look "cool" and "edgy"
Calvatron
Calvatron - 6/22/2014, 7:19 PM
wait, is Beware the Batman set in the original Teen Titans universe? because that Deathstroke looks quite similar to Slade.
GuardianAngel
GuardianAngel - 6/22/2014, 7:42 PM
@TheSoulEater

I get what you're saying, but I think that the style used works for Batman's martial arts style of fighting. Star Wars fights usually have a lot slower movement and are more fluid where as Batman's fighting style is quick. I've tried giving Young Justice a shot but the animation just kept ruining it for me. It takes awhile to get into BtB but the story gets really engaging and the 3D world works with the cinematography to draw you in.

Ideally, DC would put out an animated movie like this.

TheSoulEater
TheSoulEater - 6/22/2014, 9:30 PM
@GuardianAngel

Here's the problem, I have watched the show, this is coming from someone who gave it a chance. The fact is the story of Young Justice is far more engaging and even serious toned, particularly in the second season.

The Art Style and cinematography is shawdy at best in BtB towards the beginning, eventually it does get better but s till, it's gone over so many "Been done" plots and story points that it literally does have that as the only thing it has going for it, 3D animation which (in my opinion) has snagged to many on the grounds of "oooh 3d animation is cool." and nothing else.

If anything Teen Titans is far closer to what your talking about in terms of being anime toned.

Now where we CERTAINLY agree, the Arkham origins style in terms of story telling, animation, all of it....were that made into a show, i would binge watch that shit till judgement day
GuardianAngel
GuardianAngel - 6/22/2014, 10:25 PM
@TheSoulEater

Well, I disagree. I guess that's how opinions work.

As much as I'd love to see the Arkham CG made into a show, it's just far too expensive for DC to do so. I'd much rather they start making their DC animated films in CG like that. Even if it means less movies a year, I think the quality would be worth it.
