BOX OFFICE: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Surprises With A $65M Weekend; Nearing $500M Global

The Dark Knight Rises only pulled in $18M domestically on Friday, but deadline is reporting that Saturday's take was forty-two percent higher with $25.6M.

Domestically the film has pulled in a hefty $290M through Sunday, making it the 3rd highest number for a movie's first 10 days in release. Second highest is The Dark Knight which during that same stretch totaled $313.7M, and Marvel's The Avengers is the champ with an astounding $373M. The Dark Knight Rises will now become the third fastest to reach $300M.

Globally The Dark Knight Rises is nearing a half a billion in its first 10 days. Fantastic numbers, but still not on pace with Nolan's previous Batman film. Most of this is due to the shooting incident in Aurora, Colorado as 20%-25% of domestic moviegoers were still hesitant about seeing the film.

The Dark Knight Rises grossed $27.4M in 57 overseas markets for Friday. That brings the international cume to $176.1M after opening in big-ticket countries like Mexico, Brazil, France, Germany, Russia, Japan this weekend. Saturday’s and Sunday’s overseas tally is still to come today.

The Dark Knight Rises is now playing at your local theater. The film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.
