Batman and Superman, the most iconic superheroes of all time. Ying and yang. Goes better together than burger and fries. They say that opposites attract, and Superman and Batman fit that bill exactly. To really delve into their chemistry, we need to delve into who they are first, and then show their true magnetism.

I see Batman and Superman having three identities, basically a lantern corp they can join, and having sharp contrasts with their secret identities and superhero personas. I am going to explain these all to you.

Lets start off with Batman.

Bruce Wayne struggles with his three identities:

THE BRUCE WAYNE THE PUBLIC KNOWS:
A ruse to shy people away from ever thinking someone like this would EVER be Batman. He is a playboy billionaire who was handed his fortune, didn't break a sweat. He lives off his forefathers work, and has it all easy, but this isn't who he really is. Never was, never will be.

BATMAN:
His escape tool, his time to let his anger, frustration out against criminals who dare deface his dear city. I see Batman as Bruce’s inner demons coming out, showing no mercy. He uses this to protect himself and his close ones. But I don’t think this is the true Bruce Wayne.

THE TRUE BRUCE WAYNE:
Under all the media stunt Bruce Wayne, and the Batman identity, there lies a little boy, still struggling against his parent’s death. He has pushed himself to human perfection to avenge that horrible night. He tries to make himself something he’s not, but only Alfred and a select few know this little boy, who even though a man, is still unable to move past his personal demons for all the losses he’s suffered.

THE LANTERN CORPS:
Batman would belong to the Sinestro Corps. While he has an incredible willpower, Batman’s main tool against perps is fear.

Now time for Superman.

Superman has three identities he struggles with:

SUPERMAN:
The protector of Metropolis. The man of tomorrow. I consider this to be his weakest identity, for he uses this only as a way to protect himself and his family and friends. While this is the identity the general audience are most are familiar with, when you really look at it, this is his most shallow of his character.

CLARK KENT:
The alien baby raised in Smallville, Kansas. Raised on good morals from his adopted parents, he is quite admirable. He has a middle class wage job he pushed himself to get, and he is the epitome of a hardworking American.

KAL-EL:
While the other two matter, this one is his true identity. His alien heritage. His struggle with not knowing Jor-El and Lara-El, his losing a home world he would have belonged to. Not very many people in the DC Universe know this side of him, and not a lot can relate.

THE LANTERN CORPS:
Superman would definitely be apart of the Blue Lantern Corps. He can inspire hope very well to the citizens of Metropolis and the world. He is always hopeful for the world, and his community.

So how does this make a good magnetism between the two characters?

Well, you can already unearth this just by looking at their identities. With the Bruce Wayne everyone knows, he got everything handed on a silver platter. Clark Kent, on the contrast, earned his way to his status at The Daily Planet, and wasn’t handed anything. However, when looking at their superhero identities, Superman didn’t really have to work to get his powers. He learned to use them for the good of Earth, but he didn’t earn his powers, he was given them by our yellow sun. Batman, on the contrary, pushed himself so hard to get where he is. He pushed himself to peak human condition, and then some.

We also have the true characters, the ones with not a lot of people to turn to, that being Kal-El and the true Bruce Wayne. This could create a very insightful and meaningful idea of each character, and build great chemistry. But also, with the lantern corps in mind, we could have a internal struggle between the two characters over one another’s view of the world, and their techniques. Speaking of techniques, another thing that would really create great chemistry is their crime fighting styles. Superman is always used to doing things with his bare hands, while Batman is a master strategist, he likes to do things not always with blunt force.

Well thanks for reading my horrible editorial, and sound off your comments in the usual place!

Good article. I don't really think that these characters would cross over in the real world. Superman is kind of this anti terrorists weapon that would go anywhere he wanted and the goverment would just have to trust him and give him missions. In the other hand batman is like this anti conspiracy guy, he listen to secret radiofrequencies, finds evidence against criminals and brings them to the police. If batman just appeard in front of the police they would apprehend him. Besides that i don't think superman would care about a crazy guy that assaults gangsters, he has better things to do.

There have been plenty of editorials already where people give their opinions on how WB should do Batman and Superman this time around. It's been happening for two months and it's gonna happen for the next two years.

Another Good Article.

These two have always had 2 identities, you are trying hard to dissect them further. The true Bruce Wayne is Batman. Also Kal-el is Superman.

Other than that good read.

Nice article. Especially liked your dissection of public Bruce Wayne, Batman, and true Bruce Wayne. Don't think he's ever really been fully understood.

Heisenberg...you're goddamn right.

I disagree with the Superman points, however. I believe he has three identities too, just a little different.

There's Superman, the hero of Metropolis, yadda yadda.

The Clark Kent who works at the Daily Planet and is an awkward, bumbling mess.

And the Clark Kent who was raised by Jonathan and Martha, the true, strong farm boy who is the most honest of the three.

They should make them the ultimate bromance but I just thought of something... what the heck are these 2 fighting.They're both good/heroes.What will the entire movie just be a misunderstanding like "Oh, I thought you were evil." "I thought you were evil too."

I always liked in the comics how they both used one another's real names when they were together. Almost like "Bruce" and "Clark" were a dirty word. This has to be used in the film to show their battle for seniority.

@BatmanHeisenberg

Loved the detailed insights into the character of each hero. I never saw them in terms of what Lantern Corp. they would be best aligned with. I wouldn't have minded if your editorial was longer. Why aren't you writing Superman/Batman?

@Asterisk

Depending upon if you like the idea of a bumbling Clark. You could argue he has 4 identities.

WOW! This exploded more then I thought! Thanks for reading. I got on homepage! If I didn't respond, I'm sorry! Theres a lot kf responses!

@Asterik
I disagree. While there is alot bit of diffrence between the Clark that was raised and the daily planet Clark, I though it was more useful to do Kal-EL and Clark.

@Braniac But Clark ZKent is a huge part of Superman's identity, and Batman has two IMHO. But thanks for reading!

@Devlin Haha!

This probably one of my favortie articles about S/B.

But I must say that I disagree with the Supes identities, I believe that Clark Kent, the bumbling mess of a reporter, is just a persona Kal hides behind. I think that Superman is his true identity, he can really let go and be who he truly is. But that's my opinion, I completely agree on the Bruce though.

Once again great article!

I like this. It was a great character breakdown. I want to see these two work together. If they do challenge each other i hope it is to a stand still before working together. I would also love to see a hint of the humor between the two. I'd love to see supes mess with bats just a little.

Also, PLEASE ZACK, I want to see both Bats and SUpes get at least one badass slomo shot. Zack is the best at using it, and i don't want it everywhere, but that is his signature and i would love to see it at least once for both characters.

Superman and Kal-El is the same identity.It is Clark Kent of Smallville that is the real guy.Clark of Metropolis is a smoke screen.

Everybody on earth knows Superman is Kal-El of Krypton. He's the alien protector of the planet.

As far as Bruce the little boy,that kid died in the alley with his parents and was replaced by Batman long before he adopted the Bat suit. Batman is the real Bruce Wayne.

Yeah, I want basically the Avengers ending.

Batman and Superman team-up is as lame as Hawkeye and Thor team-up. Even worse... a V.S.

Very interested to see how this will work out.

This is pretty much what I'm looking forward to in the Superman/Batman flim. The differances in the personalities of the two. Seeing their personas clash and trying to come together to deal with whatever the problem at hand is, it's going to take alot of the flim to flesh that out. That's why I say Lex Luthor be the only villian in this one.

Good write up.

And I agree with Racoonwithrockets. I want them working together also, the way they did in the Jeph Loeb comics. Personally, I would find that most enjoyable.
