Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially announced today that Joker, the studio's most recent billion-dollar DC blockbuster, will arrive on Digital HD just in time for Christmas on December 17, followed by its 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD launch on January 7.

To date, Todd Phillips' critically acclaimed origin movie, which stars 3x Academy Award-nominee Joaquin Phoenix, has grossed over 1.049 billion worldwide ($330.6M domestic; $718.4M foreign) on an extremely modest $55-70 million production budget, and is now one of the most profitable films of all-time.

Unfortunately, the combo pack is a little light on special features, and, as expected, doesn't contain any deleted or extended scenes. With that in mind, it's fair to wonder whether a re-release may be coming down the line after the film's expected Academy Award run this coming February.

The critically-acclaimed film has earned more than $1 billion globally

Directed, co-written and produced by Oscar nominee, Todd Phillips, “Joker” stars Joaquin Phoenix in this character study of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham City’s fractured society.

“Joker” will be available on 4K, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD. The Blu-ray Combo Pack features a Blu-ray disc with the film and special features in hi-definition, a DVD with the film in standard definition and a Digital version of the movie.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of “Joker” will feature Dolby Vision HDR that dramatically expands the color palette and contrast range and uses dynamic metadata to automatically optimize the picture for every screen, frame by frame.

The Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of “Joker” will feature a Dolby Atmos® soundtrack remixed specifically for the home theater environment to place and move audio anywhere in the room, including overhead. To experience Dolby Atmos at home, a Dolby Atmos enabled AV receiver and additional speakers are required, or a Dolby Atmos enabled sound bar; however, Dolby Atmos soundtracks are also fully backward compatible with traditional audio configurations and legacy home entertainment equipment.

“Joker” will also be available on Movies Anywhere. Using the free Movies Anywhere app and website, consumers can access all their eligible movies by connecting their Movies Anywhere account with their participating digital retailer accounts.

Fans can also own “Joker” via purchase from digital retailers beginning December 17.

ABOUT THE FILM

Forever alone in a crowd, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) longs for any light to shine on him. Trying his hand as a stand-up comic, he finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty and, ultimately, betrayal, Arthur makes one bad decision after another that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events.

Three-time Oscar nominee Phoenix stars in the titular role alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro. The film also stars Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham, Marc Maron, Douglas Hodge, Josh Pais and Leigh Gill.

Phillips directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Oscar-nominated writer Scott Silver, based on characters from DC. The film was produced by Phillips and Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper under their Joint Effort banner, and Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff. Serving as executive producers were Michael E. Uslan, Walter Hamada, Aaron L. Gilbert, Joseph Garner, Richard Baratta and Bruce Berman.

Phillips’s behind-the-scenes team included director of photography Lawrence Sher, production designer Mark Friedberg, editor Jeff Groth and Oscar-winning costume designer Mark Bridges. The music is by Hildur Guðnadóttir.

BLU-RAY AND DVD ELEMENTS

“Joker” 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD Special Edition contain the following special features:
  • Joker: Vision & Fury
  • Becoming Joker
  • Please Welcome… Joker!
  • Joker: A Chronicle of Chaos

Forever alone in a crowd, Arthur Fleck seeks connection. Yet, as he trods the sooted Gotham City streets and rides the graffitied mass transit rails of a hostile town teeming with division and dissatisfaction, Arthur wears two masks. One, he paints on for his day job as a clown. The other he can never remove; it’s the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel he’s a part of the world around him, and not the misunderstood man whom life is repeatedly beating down. Fatherless, Arthur has a fragile mother, arguably his best friend, who nicknamed him Happy, a moniker that’s fostered in Arthur a smile that hides the heartache beneath. But, when bullied by teens on the streets, taunted by suits on the subway, or simply teased by his fellow clowns at work, this social outlier only becomes even more out of sync with everyone around him.

They should've used the poster image of him dancing on the stairs for one of the covers.

Why is it that DVD / Blu Ray cover art always looks like high school art projects?
