SUICIDE SQUAD Star Jared Leto Is Getting A JOKER Spinoff Of His Very Own

Following in the footsteps of his Suicide Squad costar Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn-centric projects, it seems Warner Bros. will also be giving Jared Leto's divisive Joker a solo outing of his own...

According to Variety, Warner Bros. is giving Jared Leto’s divisive incarnation of the Joker a movie of his own.

Leto, who debuted as the Clown Prince of Crime in David Ayer's Suicide Squad in 2016, is reportedly set to star and exec produce an untitled standalone film which will "pave the way for future movies branching from Suicide Squad."

We already know that one of those projects will be the Harley Quinn-centric Gotham City Sirens flick with Margot Robbie reprising her SS role, but it sounds like there may well be more in the pipeline - plus, there's the non DCEU-set Joker origin movie that Martin Scorsese is producing which may or may not star Joaquin Phoenix in the lead.

Leto's Joker did not go down particularly well with many fans and critics, but some do agree that, given better material, he could definitely make the character his own. Still, this news is bound to get a lot of backlash!

It's just Leto trolling the fanbase again.

@Batman1991 - He's probably preparing for a role as a movie executive and he's so deep in character that he's greenlighting his own movies...

I'm down. He deserves another chance.

Just no Harley please. (Even though she'll definitely be in this)

@L0RDbuckethead - I'd prefer Robbie's Harley than Leto's Joker.

@L0RDbuckethead -

Why do you think he deserves another chance? Just curious.

Just no Harley please.

In Suicide Squad neither she nor the Joker were outstanding so I don't get how you'd like one over the other.
I don't like this "Grand-Theft Auto" take on the Joker and Harley is just very one dimensional.

They could have given her a story arc where she realized how toxic and abusive her relationship to the Joker actually was but instead they just didn't and when the Joker suddenly appears out of no where (again) she leaves.

@Nebula - Agreed 100%. She has played her character better thus far. But I think Leto - with some better writers - could definitely carry his own film and make that something on par with (dare I say, better than?) Wonder Woman.

Leto is a wonderful actor. But there's no denying he would greatly benefit from having Robbie in this film.

@Humperdink - It's just my personal preference - I like the Joker better than Harley. Plus it's already been announced that there are a number of 'Harley-centric' projects in development, so we already know Robbie is going to get another chance. Leto deserves one too. Nothing against Harley though. Robbie does a great job as her and her in B:TAS is obviously awesome.

I just think Leto could do so much more with the character if he had/has better writers and think he deserves a chance to see that through. As I stated in my comment to Nebula, there's no denying that this film will benefit greatly from Robbie's inclusion.

I like your idea for her arc, and totally agree that scene at the end of SS was unwarranted and super random and showed no progression in Harley as a character.

@Humperdink - It would be a little early to fire off that arc in the first film they're featured in, don't you think? The thing that made that arc work in the comics is that it was already well-established how awful their relationship was, and how abusive Joker was. We didn't see Joker abusing Harley very much in Suicide Squad, really - he goes to great lengths to rescue her several times, in fact. So it seems premature to have Harley leave him.
Like the death of Superman, it would be a shame to waste a good story by firing it into the dark without having given it any context.

Good lord WB...

Just put him in The Batman so that Matt Reeves can fix Ayer’s mess

There are about to be two solo Joker films before a single solo Batman film or a Superman sequel
