Taika Waititi's JOJO RABBIT Beats JOKER To The Top Prize At The Toronto International Film Festival

Jojo Rabbit is a Nazi satire that, as you might expect, has proven to be controversial. Directed by and starring Taika Waititi, there's been a lot of debates about the movie at the Toronto International Film Festival, but it's now been revealed that the film has picked up the coveted Grolsch People's Choice Award.

There were high hopes for Joker after it won the top prize (the Golden Lion) at the 76th Venice International Film Festival, but the DC Comics adaptation wasn't even in the running as Noah Baumbach's Marriage Story took first runner-up and Bong Joon-ho's Parasite was named second runner-up.

Considering the fact that previous People's Choice Award winners include the likes of Green Book and La La Land, there's a very good chance that Jojo Rabbit could receive some serious awards attention next year. Will the same be said for Joker? Based on that latest wave of reviews, Joaquin Phoenix should be nominated, but it's too soon to say whether that will also be the case for the film.

Waititi will soon make his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Thor: Love and Thunder, the sequel to his massively successful 2017 effort, Thor: Ragnarok

Jojo Rabbit is actually being distributed by Disney now that they own Fox Searchlight, so the studio must be very happy to have Waititi working on both films like this and those in the MCU! What are you guys most excited to check out in theaters: Jojo Rabbit or Joker?
