JUSTICE LEAGUE Star Ben Affleck Thanks Fans As He Announces That He's Finished Alcohol Treatment

Batman actor Ben Affleck has taken to Instagram to announce that he's completed treatment for alcohol addiction. This was the third time the Justice League star checked himself into rehab (the last time was in 2017) but as he notes down below, "Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is a full-time commitment."

With any luck, Affleck will now be able to return to being a filmmaker because movies he directed like The Town and Argo were nothing short of fantastic. It's fair to say that most comic book fans are obviously more concerned about whether or not he'll end up playing Batman again but we're still no closer to knowing whether he'll be suiting up as the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves' The Batman.

Regardless, it's great to hear that Affleck is doing well and it's awesome to see him reach out to fans like this to thank them for supporting him during what was clearly a very difficult time for the actor.

...What about Batman, though?

(Sorry, someone had to be the first to ask. I'll take the bullet.)

@Spock0Clock - I'm hoping he'll offically annouce he's done with the role soon. The guy is pretty much a trainwreck and should worry about getting himself back together.

@Spock0Clock - hey, at least you were honest about how the concern over that aspect of his life is the selfish primary concern of us cbm fans. better than lying about it

@Feralwookiee - Hes the best batman there has been size wise, look wise and attitude wise. His acting hasnt been 100% in either film, but i blame that more on directors/wb/scripts tbh. I hope he does 2 more films minimum - give me a red hood movie and redo a new justice league to not suck.

Happy for him. Alcohol addiction can be a bitch. Glad he's kicking it's ass. And he looks like he's in good shape too.

Hope he starts leading a healthy lifestyle.

Glad to see he's back to a healthier place, hope he stays that way for a long, long time.

In regards to his career - I definitely wanna see him direct more movies like The Town and Argo, so hopefully he'll get to a place where he feels able to do that again.

And as for Batman - I really hope he comes back. I love what he's done with the character, even when he hasn't always had the best material to work with. Having said that, I'm also hoping Batman starts to take a bit of a backseat as the DCEU progresses (if it gets back on track and does go forward).

We've had A LOT of Batman over the last decade or so, certainly more than any other DC character, so making him the face of the franchise again would be overkill. Also considering the fact Batman is an older character in this universe, it makes sense to let the newer heroes take over, plus it's clear (whether or not he still wants to play the character, which I don't think even he knows at this point much less anyone else) Affleck is finding it hard to keep up due to how physically demanding and time consuming the role is, as well as the quality of the material he's been working with clearly having a negative effect on his time as the character.

So yeah, hopefully he'll direct and work on projects he wants to work on, pop up as Batman from time to time as a supporting character when it's relevant (Justice League, movies based on characters like Nightwing/Batgirl/etc.), but first and foremost focus on his health and wellbeing.

@zeon00 - No, lackluster writing caused "destruction" of the DCEU.
AC1
AC1 - 10/5/2018, 2:54 AM
Also regarding Batman, I'm kind of open to him staying on as the "older" Batman as a framing device if Matt Reeves' Batman movie is mostly focusing on a younger version of the character, if that movie ever does happen. I just don't wanna see him cast aside, and certainly don't want DC to suddenly make this version of the character younger going forward when the cool thing about him is that we're seeing an experienced, veteran Batman on screen for the first time.

@AC1 - in TDKR we had half crippled batman though.
AC1
AC1 - 10/5/2018, 1:15 PM
@Gizmoduck - true, but I'd say even by the time Christian Bale's Batman retired at the end of TDKR he still wasn't anywhere near as experienced as Batfleck

It is such a pity that some of the creative decisions have hindered the DCEU. I would like for the DCEU to still forge ahead with Ben and Henry Cavill still on board. We should really be seeing MOS 3 by now.

Can't wait for Zack to claim on Vero that this was part of his plan for the DCEU.

On a serious note, congrats Ben and good luck moving forward.
