Magic, monsters, gods and madness reign throughout the palaces and pyramids of the Nile River Valley in this action-adventure inspired by the classic mythology of Egypt. With the survival of mankind hanging in the balance, an unexpected hero takes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. Set (Gerard Butler), the merciless god of darkness, has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. With only a handful of heroic rebels opposing Set’s savage rule, Bek (Brenton Thwaites), a bold and defiant mortal, enlists the aid of powerful god Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in an unlikely alliance against the evil overlord. As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen take them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the spectacular final confrontation.

Gods of Egypt opens February 26th.

This looks exactly like Clash of the Titans, and I'm totally okay with that. There's nothing wrong with a fun, loud popcorn flick every once in a while.

Just gonna throw this out for the sake of discussion:
Why do people seem to have such a problem with "whitewashing" in this movie, but when the topic is Idris Elba as Bond, or Michael B. Jordan as Human Torch, it's a whole other ballgame?

Again, I don't really care one way or another, just curious.

@pestulio07

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who doesn't care about the whitewashing, and it's refreshing to see others point out how people seem to be a bit hypocritical on the issue of race casting.

And to others who see this comment and want to make a big argument with me about being "Accurate", take second to consider these things:
1. I really, REALLY don't give a damn about race, as saying that someone shouldn't be allowed to work on something just because of their skin color is racist.
2. We don't know for sure what the ancient Egyptians looked like. And don't say that just because they were in Africa that it automatically made them black, as that's just assuming based on ignorance. The hieroglyphs depicted them as having various ranges of skin color. Science has yet to prove what they looked like, and people who lived back then aren't exactly around to give us an accurate depiction, are they? Personally, I've always felt they were more like what we refer to as Middle Eastern.

I'm willing to go see this film and try to enjoy myself, as it really appeals to my interest in Ancient Egyptian mythology. And if any of you can answer this one question, I'll admit defeat:

What is one other ancient Egypt movie that focuses on the gods of ancient Egypt, and not on Moses, mummies, King Tut, or Cleopatra?
