Producer Michael Uslan On Which Classic BATMAN Story He Would Like To See On The Big Screen

While doing the Q & A at the premiere of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2, long time Batman producer Michael Uslan, speaking strictly as a fan, revealed what Batman story line he would like to see on the big screen.

A little bit ago it was just announced that Batman, like there was ever any doubt, would be one of the core members of Warner Brother's Justice League movie. Also, another report says that the next solo Batman movie wouldn't likely hit theaters until 2017, maybe even later. Long time Batman Producer Michael Uslan was at the premiere for The Dark Knight Returns Part 2, where he was asked about the next live action movie. Uslan didn't give up any details saying, "Who knows what the future may bring." However, he did share, as a fan, that he would like to see The Dark Knight Returns story line in live action. Said Uslan, "I have to say, NOT speaking as a producer. Understand that? I'm just wearing my fanboy hat right now. One day it dawned on me there are two actors out there who are the absolute right age right now to do The Dark Knight Returns in live action, Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson." Once again he was speaking of his own personal desires, however it would be really cool to see that franchise come full circle with a movie based on The Dark Knight Returns storyline.

There was a question asked on whether we might get to see a Battle For The Cowl animated feature, as well as if there was a possibility of Terry McGuinnes might show up in one. Uslan pondered a bit and said, "Now if I could put my fanboy hat back on, not the producer hat. How cool would it be to see a Batman Beyond movie? With Bruce Wayne in his 80s training a young Batman, and how cool would it be to see Clint Eastwood as Bruce Wayne in his 80s?" While both of these are extremely unlikely to happen, it is cool to know that at least one of the Producers, are thinking outside the box when it comes to the character. No matter what the direction for the next Batman movie is, make sure to check bat here at CBM for the latest.

Disagree.

I felt that Dark Knight Returns is highly overrated, and while I do enjoy Batman Beyond, I wouldnt really have any desire to hit the theaters.

Cast is pretty lame too but what do I know, this is just my opinion and I alone wouldnt see these.

I wouldn't mind seeing either of them adapted. More so Batman Beyond.

For a regular Batman movie, Batman: Hush, Batman: War Games, or any of Loeb/Sale's titles win my vote as the basis of the new movie. Would be even better if they make a combo of all those.

The Dark Knight Returns would be great, but after the animated outing, I doubt they'll translate it to the big screen, too. Plus, it would need a REALLY capable person to handle it, because the animated movie obviously lacked in delivering the narration. It's a good movie, but not as powerful as the material source.

If they can get Sam Neill as an older Bruce in a Batman Beyond movie (which I think is rather unlikely, despite my desire to see it), that would be great. For Terry? I was rooting for Dane DeHaan, but he's an Osborn now. I'm left with no choice at all. Milo Ventimiglia can handle the adult version of the character, though.

Oh, and yeah...a portion of The Dark Knight Rises was also based on The Dark Knight Returns, I believe, which narrows its possibility to be adapted even more. I'd LOVE to see Keaton and Nicholson in those iconic roles once more, of course, but it's simply unlikely for now. Not to mention how general audiences may get confused..."Wasn't Nicholson's Joker dead already?" I can already see that popping around, if it happens.

I'd say lets get a perfect Batman franchise on screen, then maybe some of this stuff later. I honestly think Karl Urban would make a fantastic Batman, and a great Bruce Wayne. But honestly I wouldn't mind if they didn't do as much with Wayne because last trilogy had Wayne A LOT! Try something different.

I thought of that a couple weeks ago. My thought happened at work, I was like:

"Hey wait a minute, Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton are the right ages for The Dark Knight Returns!"

Eureka!

I'd like a regular batman movie with some villains that haven't been used. Plain and simple

Keaton is a nobody and he was a shit Batman who incinerated thugs. Why would he retire when he doesn't mind killing ALL the time?

Next Batman reboot NEEDS to have HUSH be the villain

Too much of Dark Knight Returns was used in the story for TDKR to see it adapted to the big screen any time soon. How about something original rather than trying to directly adapt a comic book story?

My fan thoughts exactly! Would love either or both of those movies with those actors!

Also...Batman DID kill...a LOT (if youre laughing you saw the college humor video) until Batman #1, the editor told Bob Kane that Batman would no longer use guns and he had to tone down the violence...or no title.

'Of course Batman killed people! In the beginning, he used to throw goons from buildings roofs and even carried a pistol!

I would like to see a noir/detective kinda stuff in the reboot. Very classical, dark and grim. Beyond would be great too. I think Beyond it's the natural path for Batman's reboot. But hey, it will all depends on the goddamn JL movie. =/

Well, the cast ideas are good, but as stories I don't really like The Dark Knight Returns nor the Batman Beyond. Instead of getting a movie about possible-future-stories, I would like to see something Arkham city-like on the big screen.

Keaton and nicholson are all right, but my dream cast for a TRUE TDKR film adaptation would be...

Sylvester Stallone as Batman

Willem Dafoe as the Joker

Bruce Willis as Harvey Dent

Keaton was the best Bruce AND Batman, because of the contrast he could keep.

Batman Beyond is the way to go, after watching Return of the Joker multiple times, I think this would be an awesome idea, besides it'll bring something fresh instead of going through Batman's origin again with Bruce Wayne.
