RUMOR: The Dark Knight Rises Won't Be Based on "No Man's Land" & No Robin!

Cosmic Book News who had the scoop on the Man of Steel finale, have another rumor. But this time it's about the new Batman movie. Want to know why Bane takes over Gotham?

Well if this news is true then that would eliminate one role that Joseph Gordon-Levitt could possibly be playing, since nobody thinks he is just John Blake the cop. Now if you remember, Variety in the past reported that JGL was going to play Alberto Falcone, son of former mob boss Carmine Falcone (Tom Wilkinson). To me that sounds like a better fit in Nolan's trilogy and would tie up the mobster angle that was seen throughout the previous two films. To be fair, Entertainment Weekly's inside source said that report was not true too. So, who do you guys think JGL is playing?

Cosmic Book News

Apparently there is some thought that "Batman: No Man's Land" will play a part in The Dark Knight Rises. The reason being could either be because of the footage from the Pittsburgh Heinz Field shoot, which some thought revealed Bane having an "earthquake device," or that fact that it has become known that Bane takes over Gotham. I'm being told "No Man's Land" will not be an influence on The Dark Knight Rises.

However, the reason why Bane takes over Gotham -- is because Batman gets injured at the hands of Bane, and Batman disappears for a few months to recover. This enables Bane and his mercenaries to run amok through Gotham, turning the city into a massive crisis. In "No Man's Land" an earthquake struck Gotham causing the U.S. Govt. to close off the city, resulting in Bruce Wayne leaving Gotham to argue against that decision, which caused the rise of the villains in Gotham City.

Next, when Batman returns it brings back hope to the city as Gordon was trying to the save the city on his own, resulting in him being hospitalized. Bruce Wayne goes to visit Gordon, which inspires Batman to return faster. Also, something about Bruce wearing a mask or disguise when visiting Gordon is mentioned.

Another tidbit: Most people in the city believe that turning corrupt will save them from Bane.

Finally, the source was adamant that there will be "NO ROBIN at all!!"

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Garly Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.

Nailbiter, you're my fav on here. I'd say this is probably legit. It just makes sense. No back broken, just serious injuries. Him coming back is why he rises.

Hmm...so No Man's Land won't influence TDKR, but the plot description there sounds like the opposite.
Either way, this movie's gonna be fantastic. Looks like it could be the best of the trilogy (if that's even possible).

@marvel72

Look at him in Arkham City. I'd rather have Robin like that than Hathaway as Catwoman. Save for reboot then :P. Hope it is good, not gonna troll like some Illwill wannabe lol. Still can't get over how shitty Hardy looks as Bane, though. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING NOLAN?

@SaintsCrow "Everyone is so concerned about Robin, but he would not play out well in Nolans world."

But Catwoman does, right? It all depends how you write and portray the character. Personally, I can't wait until Nolan's run is over. I want a Batman film more like the comics.

Nolan can have some non-sensical stuff but the suit has to be realistic why can't a Billionaire who owns a bunch of tech companies can't come up with a suit that is pliable as well as resistant to knives and bullets.

Mkay....
Bane has an extremely small part in No Man's Land. People who have read even just a wikipedia synopsis should know that. He is ONLY there to steal and destroy certain legal documentation that stands in the way of Lex Luthor buying the city. That's it. He has no interest in Gotham.

Here's the similarities we can see from No Man's Land and The Dark Knight Rises.
-| Batman isn't available, and Gotham is overrun with crime and therefore resembles a demilitarized zone.
-| Batman loses faith in his ability to save Gotham from itself. (Not unique to No Man's Land, however)
-| New vigilantes are operating in Gotham, probably without Batman's consent.

That's what is already established. Speculation runs close to wishful thinking, as No Man's Land was actually pretty good story-wise, and would definitely fit in under the established parameters.

Gotham is completely overrun and looking like Detroit in a Robocop movie. GCPD is on its own. Gordon is in command of some crazy cops who have their own ideas of justice and leadership. Catwoman, as a vigilante, would fill in for Huntress and Batgirl (Cass), who get the thankless job of keeping the neighborhoods safe while Batman can't help but offer criticism.

There's just so much potential in there, and it's going to really urk a lot of fans when they don't follow that route to its glory.

Don't trash Nightwing. He's a great character and would actually translate well in a similarly edgy and run-down Batman movie. Get past his Robin origins and focus on a self-confident hero who although idolizes Batman, has enough self-respect to back away. Audiences are used to him being the side-kick, the annoying teenager who's anxious to prove himself. Well as Nightwing, he's definately grown past that.

I'm defending him and I'm not even a fan.
