On September, 5th, 1992 the animation world was changed forever, Batman the animated series debuted, the show and the people who worked on it have become the backbone of what superhero cartoons are today. But those men and women also went on to create a new chapter in the batman saga, which is a very hard thing to do with fans as passionate as the batman fans are. In 1999 batman beyond was created, out of thin air. No comic book to pull from, no rouges gallery to dive into, and Bruce Wayne isn’t batman this time. Even at the age of 7 I was skeptical about this show. They had taken my favorite animated character and made him younger and give him jet boots with no cape, I wasn’t convinced. But as the show went on I started to like the new fresh take on batman, it became a hybrid of my two favorite superheroes being spider-man and batman. And I wasn't the only one this character was and still is very beloved by its fans.
As many of you know before Chris Nolan started his dark knight saga there was a possibility of a live action batman beyond movie to be written by Paul Dini, who most of you know from Batman: the animated series and tons of other cartoons, and even before that Warner Brother announced that it was developing a live action film adaptation of the TV series with Boaz Yakin attached to co-write and direct. As happy as I am that we got those Nolan Batman movies, I've always wanted the Batman beyond character to come to life on the big screen. But then the rumors cropped up again recently before this year’s comic con.
This year’s comic con however gave us something we didn't expect but have always wanted, coming 2015 Superman vs. Batman the movie. So that must mean the batman beyond movie is dead in the water again right? Well probably, but a Batman Beyond movie could work, if not tandem with the Superman vs. Batman movie or the Justice league movie that is inevitably coming. Marvel is doing something similar with the Guardians of the galaxy in which it takes place in the future and an alternate reality, the Batman Beyond movie can build off of what the new batman movies set up, and whoever ends up being cast as the new Batman in the Superman vs. Batman movie can portray an older Bruce.
A Batman Beyond movie would set up so many things for a universe that Warner Brothers wants to explore, including time travel, future justice leagues, and just fan service galore. I feel like one of the reasons that batman beyond did so well was that it never forgot what it had come from, every episode had a nod or a mention of something we either saw or knew about the batman the animated series universe, and as long as a Batman Beyond movie has a DC comics universe and especially a Batman universe to draw from I think Batman beyond could be a huge success.
