While Black Adam will finally add that iconic anti-hero to the DC Extended Universe, many fans are even more excited for the Justice Society of America's big screen debut.
The four-hero team will consist of Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Atom-Smasher, and Cyclone, and a new look at them - and Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam - has now been revealed by Total Film. The publication has also shared some comments from former James Bond, Pierce Brosnan, about what we can expect from his take on Kent Nelson.
"I am the elder of the group," the actor reveals. "I’m assured he’s one of the oldest characters in the pantheon of comic-book characters. He’s an archaeologist."
"He has powers to foresee the future, and raise the dead, and teleport, while wearing a gold helmet. It’s a blessing and a curse," Brosnan adds. "It’s almost like a drug addiction in some respects. It takes a lot of energy to wear the helmet. It was a very beautifully designed outfit and helmet, which I’m quite fond of."
Recently, Black Adam director Jaume Collet-Serra suggested that the movie will gloss over Hawkman's comic book origin. He explained that it would be too confusing for moviegoers to delve into Carter Hall's reincarnations and a possible history with Black Adam, but Aldis Hodge appears to have contracted his comments.
"This brother has been around for a while," Hodge says. "He has the power - or rather the curse - of reincarnation. So he’s actually been around for thousands of years, even during the time of Teth-Adam, when he was originally in his previous form."
Could it be that those scenes were cut? We know reshoots took place earlier this year and Black Adam certainly doesn't look like the most complex movie based on the trailers. Dumbing down Hawkman's history would be a shame, but there's always a chance the DC Comics adaptation will surprise us (maybe even by revealing where Hawkgirl is).
Black Adam looks set to electrify audiences in theaters when it's released on October 21.
