Since news broke that Marvel Studios' 2014 Captain America sequel may be followed by a big-screen adaptation of The Black Panther, potential T'Challa contenders have been modestly campaigning for the King of Wakanda. Via Examiner, the latest is actor Aldis Hodge. When asked if he favored a comic book series, Hodge replied:

"Growing up I was a fan of Black Panther and X-Men comic books. I was also a huge Batman fan. There’s recently been a little buzz online about Marvel pushing for Black Panther, and I’ve been in love with the idea for years. I want the fans to know that the one role I really want to play is Black Panther. I grew up loving the Marvel world, and grew up on martial arts. I still train. When Black Panther came around, he was almost like an African American Batman."

Aldis Hodge, 25, is best known for his Alec Hardison role on the TNT Leverage TV series, which landed him a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in Television. He has also appeared in Supernatural among many shows. And he currently has two films, The East and Lives of the Saints, in production. What do you think?

Created by writer-editor Stan Lee & penciller-co-plotter Jack Kirby, “The Black Panther” (T'Challa) first appeared in “Fantastic Four #52,” and is the first black superhero in mainstream American comics. Back in January of 2011, Hollywood trades revealed that documentary writer Mark Bailey (“Ghosts of Abu Ghraib”) was hired to pen a live-action screenplay focused on the Wakandan king, for Marvel Studios. And recent claims indicate that “The Black Panther” adaptation could officiate Walt Disney Pictures' currently-untitled June 27, 2014 release date.

Up until 15 - 20 years ago, notice how 75 % of all black superheroes had the word 'black' in their name... African Panthers are black ..... why wouldn't he just call himself 'The Panther' ?.....

Of course everyone wants this roll. How many prominent African American superheros are there. Marvel won't do Goliath because they are doing Giant/Ant Man. No one wants to be the next Green Lantern even if they go with John Stewart. So other than the Black Panther who do we really expect to get a movie, Dr. VooDoo? The only real options are Black Panther, Luck Cage (as part of Heroes for Hire), or Cyborg (as part of Justice League).

Why do they only consider thin guys? Black Panther is bulky, dammit.

Does body size even matter anymore. These actors are given quite a bit of time to go from thin man to hulk. Sure it was probably easier for Chris Evans to bulk up. But nearly most of the superheroes on film in the last decade are men who were thin but by no means sporting 6 packs.

no! This dude is lanky muscular and goofy looking. Just cause he's black, young, and good at martial arts DOESNT help that he's not African, built as T'Challa, and an outstanding actor. Next please!

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Djimon Hounsou (Who'd I'd LOVE to play the part, though apparently his age, which is one year older than RDJ, seems to be an issue), Anthony Mackie (who's NOT African, but his celeb stature and acting chops rival the other Avengers), and possibly (though not digging him for this role though) Chiwetel Ejiofor. Those 4, are who should be in the running for Black Panther...PERIOD.

@marvel72-I agree!lol

@Chap3l smh, he doesn't have to be African to nail the role! Watch Forest Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland & see what I'm talking about.

@Luther

u are silly. cause he aint African he should not play the role. ScarJo aint fricking Russian and shes play Black Widow for crying out loud.

plus Black Panther aint fricking muscle man. Black Panther is Athletic he has to move like a f**king Ninja.
CoolantTech
CoolantTech - 6/23/2012, 3:44 PM
For the movie title I think they just might call it "The Panther" instead of Black Panther because they may not want to affiliate it with the blackpower 60's movement... and for obvious other reasons.

Cool. Don't know if he's in anything I have watched but Looking at him he'd be fine. Needs to bulk up a bit more though. Still look at what Hemsworth and Evens did.

This is unrelated but on this website they have the last 3 episodes of season 2 of Avengers: EMH but they don't have the episode titled "New Avengers"(The one where Kang comes back & Spider-Man, Wolverine, Luke Cage, and etc. have to stop him). Does anyone know where I can watch that episode at?(already tried Youtube)

most of the people here are so f**king dumb saying cause he is Africa-American he should not play the role. heres a few Africa-American actors played African roles in Hollywood movies.

- Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland
- Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela in Invictus
