BLACK PANTHER: Chadwick Boseman Says Shuri Occupies The Most Important Role In Wakanda Society

T'Challa may be the King of Wakanda and its protector but he's not the one designing the Black Panther vibranium suits and maintaining the tech that keeps Wakanda hidden from the rest of the world.

After T'Challa, it's Shuri who is next in line for the throne of Wakanda.  However, during T'Challa's reign, she plays an equally if not more important role in Wakanda's security and prosperity according to Chadwick Boseman.  "Her role is the most important. In the comic book, T'Challa is a scientist and a king, but my sister is the whiz kid. She is the one with that gift. She's the Tony Stark of Wakanda. She's witty, she's cool, she's funny. Now, T'Challa is good in science too, but she's the whiz. That's the way the story's been told forever. T'Challa is technologically sound. He's a scientist as well, but she's the minister of technology."

In an earlier interview, Wright described Shuri as, "She's princess of Wakanda, but also she designs all of the new technology there. She has an innovative spirit and an innovative mind, and she wants to take Wakanda to a new place. Also, she has a great fashion sense, better than mine."

With Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa only recently making his MCU debut, the likelihood of Letitia Wright's Shuri suiting up in the Black Panther suit is highly unlikely. However, every year there's chatter that Robert Downey Jr. may be looking to make his MCU exit so perhaps Kevin Feige and co. are strategically positioning Shuri to take Stark's place as the leading scientific mind in the MCU post- Phase 3?

Black Panther arrives in theaters and IMAX on February 16, 2018.

"She has great fashion sense"
Seeing as she designed that new ugly mask, I doubt it.

Phase 3 is capitalizing on their women, and I like it indeed: Ancient One, Dora Milaje, Ghost as female villain, Wasp having her own titular movie along Ant-Man, Valkyrie making her debut as one of the best female characters in a comic book film yet, Hela being their first female villain, almost half the Guardians being women in vol.2, Captain Marvel making her debut, and then further developing the pre-existing female characters established in The Avengers movies.

@ScarletWarlock - We're gonna get a Black Widow announcement movie. You can screen cap this, and throw it back at my face if it doesn't happen lol But some stuff I've seen on tweeter and some of Scarlet's reactions lately makes me think it will, or that it's at least being discussed.

ScarletWarlock
ScarletWarlock - 11/11/2017, 12:23 PM
@Asturgis - I think it's definitely being discussed. I will say though, if they do the movie, I just hope they can somehow distinguish her tone from Winter Soldier's, just because they need to make her film unique at that point. Not saying they ditch the spy/thriller stuff, just that they lean into something new because she'll have had 7 appearances at that point.

@SonOfAGif - Even if she doesn't appear, I think a fourth female Guardian is inevitable.

Found this whilst doing a deep dive for the Doctor Strange screenplay:

http://scriptlib.dreamhosters.com/Doctor%20Strange%20-%20uncredited%20draft%202014.pdf

Can't verify the source, but finished the first 25 pages and it's good. Dormammu is a big player, the setting is VERY different, and it looks like Strange is trying to solve an interesting mystery...

TheStrangeDoc
TheStrangeDoc - 11/11/2017, 12:17 PM
@Invasion96 - it's an origin story is all I can tell, so maybe an early unused draft?? It's reads well, maybe a hack, but seems legit? Dunno. Read the 1st like 8 pages, it's a cool setup.
