Disney+ (via The Hollywood Handle) has confirmed that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will debut on the streaming service on Friday, January 20.

Ryan Coogler's critically-acclaimed sequel is still playing in theaters, and recently passed the $800 million mark at the global box office. While this is a very respectable haul - especially in post-Covid times - short of a re-release, the movie is highly unlikely to join its predecessor in the $1 billion club.

Even so, Wakanda Forever has broken another record. With a domestic cume of $429+ million, the film has passed the likes of Captain Marvel and the first Wonder Woman to become the highest-grossing female-led superhero movie in U.S. box office history.

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. Introducing Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Livanalli.

Well I'll be seeing it sooner than I expected, I wasn't in any rush but I thought I would have to wait longer to see it.

@dragon316 - Yeah my biggest issue was they didn't recast T"Challa,Shuri shouldn't be T'Challa replacement for Black Panther, Namor looks terrible and Ironheart have no interest in.

That's why I didn't go to the cinema to see this, hence I'll wait for it to show up on Disney Plus.

@DoubleD - Every Disney live action remake made over 1 billion at boxoffice. Does not mean a film will be remembered or is good.

@DoubleD - I’m part of the minority that had no interest in this. It’s great that it’s doing so well though. Original IP’s are always appreciated.

@DoubleD - as I have stated SEVERAL times on this site…..The Cameron Effect is in full-swing. As with Titanic AND Avatar, this opened to decent, but not stellarly front-loaded, financials but the post-opening holds will exponentially stack this movie’s cumes. Happened in ‘97-98 and ‘09-10. Think ‘Maverick’ on ‘roids!

@TopBoy - it was always gonna make less. No China either.

Wouldve been too soon for a recast. This was needed.

An established franchise, and a "heart filled" story couldn't beat James Cameron. Let that sink in lol. The superhero fatigue is real Due to oversaturation

@bobevanz - and this was more of Namor's movie than Shuri's, as far as screen time lol

@bobevanz - if 800 million is fatigue I'd like to be fatigued. Also, there's no superhero movie that beat the first avatar
