There was a lot of controversy regarding the casting of Michael B. Jordan in Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot and while he ended up being a, well, fantastic Johnny Storm, he was let down by an otherwise terrible movie. It scored 9% on Rotten Tomatoes and was a box office bomb, marking a bad career move for all those involved and a project it seems they'd all really rather just forget about now.
It didn't take Jordan long to return to the world of superheroes, though, and he'll actually play a supervillain when he suits up as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther (reteaming him with Ryan Coogler).
During a recent interview, Jordan was asked if he was hesitant to return to the genre and made it clear that he views the Marvel Studios movie as a chance to get it right after starring in Fantastic Four.
"Zero hesitation to do another comic book movie. I guess I got brought in later in the game because that was the natural process – we and Ryan still talked everyday, and I still, still kind of in an unofficial capacity, had always been part of it. No hesitation, really, to do another comic book film. I’m a geek, I love this world, I love being able to play in that fantastic kind of space. I looked at it as another shot to get it right, to do it again, and especially teaming up with [Director of Photography] Rachel [Morrison] again and Ryan, it’s a very comfortable space with me. It’s the perfect space for me to take another risk like this, so it was no hesitation on my part."
