With Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Endgame; Jojo Rabbit) appearing on the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, the popular trade has shared two more exclusive new stills (along with a stunning photoshoot) from the longtime Marvel star's upcoming summer blockbuster, Black Widow, which will see the 2x Academy Award nominee reprise her iconic role as Natasha Romanoff.

The images feature Natasha Romanoff shedding a tear (for a fallen comrade, perhaps?), and Yelena Belova rappelling down a wall.

Cate Shortland (Berlin Syndrome; Lore) directed the long-awaited standalone, and in addition to Johansson, the film's ensemble cast will introduce several new characters into the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, including, but not limited to, Academy Award-nominee Florence Pugh (Little WomenFighting with My Family) as Yelena Belova, 2x Primetime Emmy-nominee David Harbour (Stranger Things; Hellboy) as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian and Academy Award-winner Rachel Weisz (The Favourite; The Mummy) as Melina Vostokoff.

There's also an unnamed actor playing the popular Marvel Comics villain Taskmaster, and if an earlier report is to be believed, fans may have already unearthed his identity.

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz is Melina. Directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, “Black Widow”—the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe—hits U.S. theaters on May 1, 2020.

Black Widow features:
Director: Cate Shortland
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow
Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova/Black Widow
David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian
Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff/Black Widow
O-T Fagbenle as Rick Mason
William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross
Ray Winstone in an undisclosed role
Olivier Richters in an undisclosed role
TBD as Taskmaster

Black Widow hits theaters May 1

Gotta be honest. That face/off speculation is really all I can think about now.

@Spock0Clock - Wait, what? Natasha's face on Yelena's body? Because I recall that happening in the comics. I don't know about that.
Seems more like Yelena gets killed or presumed dead, which leads to Nat taking on her look in Infinity War to honor her.

@Battabing @Reeds2Much @Spock0Clock - Came here to speculate on this, and dammit Spock, you beat me to it. But yes, it's an intruiging idea/rumor. It actually has some precedent in the comics (2001's "Breakdown"). Personally, I hope that is not the case, as it would essentially mean that Florence Pugh's character was actually the one that looked like BW (blonde hair/green vest) in Infinity War and Endgame. This would mean that Pugh's character is the one that dies on Vormir, and the REAL Natasha's fate is unknown... Not sure if Feige and Co. have the balls to do that but I wouldn't hate it. I just think it would make "Natasha's" role in IW and Endgame kind of dumb, especially with all the emotional stuff she goes through with Clint on Vormir and earlier in the movie. Plus it would be weird for Clint to have that kind of reaction to her death (lake scene in Endgame) if it was really Florence Pugh's character. Unless of course Clint didn't know it was Florence Pugh's character.

Sorry for the essay. The rumor as a whole is explained further here:

Not sure if I buy this completely. We'll see, I guess.

@L0RDbuckethead - As @BillCipher noted, Red Skull wouldn't be fooled by a face change.
It's more likely that Yelena dies or is presumed dead by Natasha, and she just takes on her sister's look (blonde hair, Yelena's green vest) to honor her.

@Battabing - Yeah, the Red Skull thing is still kind of unclear, that's a good point by Cipher. I guess we will see. But it's not like they clearly defined his "soul abilities" in Endgame...

I'm more interested to see what comes of that weird outline that's on Florence Pugh's face in that new trailer when she's strapped to the table. Looks oddly like a Face/Off scenario of sorts.

Marvel is so dominant a Black Widow movie is one of the hottest films and will be one of the top highest grossing of the year. BW is a legit credible threat now😂

Lmao!! Marvel has created a filmverse so big it's not even a part Hollywood. It's it's whole own entity that lives by its own rules. Just wow
