Black Widow has finally arrived in theaters, and is just hours away from landing on Disney+ as well.

From the moment Taskmaster was revealed as one of the film's villains, there has been endless speculation and heaps of rumors online about who is beneath the mask. Better known as Tony Masters in the comics, it's no secret that Marvel Studios planned to take things in a slightly different direction with this classic villain for his MCU debut, and they most definitely did.

So, who is Black Widow's Taskmaster?

MAJOR SPOILERS FOLLOW!

Taskmaster's identity isn't revealed until the very end of the film when Dreykov unmasks his most formidable weapon to reveal the scarred face of his daughter, Antonia (played by Olga Kurylenko).

Earlier in the film, we learned that Natasha Romanoff's final mission before being accepted into S.H.I.E.L.D. was to blow up Dreykov; unfortunately, the only way to verify that he was there was to wait until his young daughter arrived, but little did Black Widow know they both survived.

Loki taunted Natasha over "Dreykov's daughter" in 2012's The Avengers, and her past quite literally comes back to haunt her here. Taskmaster has been enhanced by Melina's tech and has the ability to mimic anyone she sees. However, she's also completely under her father's control until Natasha uses the vials stolen by Yelena to free Antonio from the clutches of the Red Room.

With that, she no longer wants to kill the Avenger, and is taken to safety by Yelena, Red Guardian, Melina, and the rest of the Widows, leaving her future in the MCU very much up in the air for now.

Well at least they could introduce another version of the character in the future but I'm not sure that I'm opposed this take.

Saw Black Widow last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't know f* all about the comicbook version of Taskmaster, but the movie version, while technically menacing, wasn't really all that interesting. Movie was good though.
