While Black Adam hasn't been a flop, it's definitely not a massive hit for Warner Bros. Discovery. It currently looks set to earn the same amount at the worldwide box office as Shazam!, a good result...the only problem is, Black Adam cost twice as much to produce.
Dwayne Johnson billed the movie as a fresh start for the DCEU, but the DCEU is dead and we're now in the era of DC Studios and the DCU. As a result, it's unclear how Black Adam will factor into future plans, though we can't believe the character won't at least return in a co-starring role (a sequel is looking increasingly unlikely).
Something that's bound to only hurt Black Adam's box office chances is the fact the movie has now leaked online in HD/4K.
We're not sure what the source of that is, though it has subtitles and, based on those, we're assuming it's been pirated in Korea. We obviously won't be linking to any leaked copies here, but it's not hard to find.
Now, one of Black Adam's biggest draws - Henry Cavill's Superman return - is floating around in HD, we can't see the movie adding too much more to its global cume. It's always a shame when a leak like this happens as it hurts any blockbuster's chances of success, and that's far from a good thing as theaters continue trying to recover from the pandemic.
Warner Bros. and Johnson have yet to comment on the leak, though we're sure the former will be acting quickly to remove any pirated copies (and taking the appropriate legal action).
"Come for The Rock’s pitch-perfect take on Black Adam and stay for an unmissable post-credits scene," we said in our review last month. "Then, just try to forget everything else, because this brainless, brawny superhero movie is not the fresh start the DCEU desperately needs."
