We recently learned that Marvel Studios is currently developing a Thunderbolts movie, and we may now have our first confirmed team member.
Though this should be treated as a rumor for the time being, scooper Daniel Richtman is claiming that Olga Kurylenko is set to reprise the role of Taskmaster, aka Antonia Dreykov, for the upcoming MCU film. The former villain made her debut in Black Widow as a formidable adversary of Natasha Romanoff's (Scarlett Johansson), but we later discovered that she was being controlled by her ruthless father (Ray Winstone).
Antonia left with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and the other Widows, and we haven't heard anything from or about her since.
We don't have much else to go on, but we know the movie will follow the comics by revolving around "a group of supervillains (or at least characters who have played bad guys at one point in MCU) who go on missions for the government," so Taskmaster's involvement wouldn't come as a major surprise.
Which other characters end up on the roster remains to be seen, but we assume this is the group Valentina Allegra de Fontaine began to put together in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. If so, John Walker/U.S. Agent is a safe bet, with Baron Zemo, Abomination, and Yelena Belova/Black Widow strong possibilities.
In the comics, the Thunderbolts were originally introduced as a new superhero team who stepped in when the Avengers were declared dead after the events of Onslaught, but it was soon revealed that they were actually the Masters of Evil in disguise. Ultimately, most members of the team reformed for real, and did their best to become a force for good
Jake Schreier (Robot and Frank, Dave) is set to direct, with Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson penning the script.
