Blue Beetle will be with us in just a couple of weeks, and the first official clip from the DC Comics-based superhero movie is now online.
In the (very) brief sneak peek, we see Jaime Reyes get more than a little freaked out when he realizes that the Scarab has attached itself to his back while members of his family listen at his door.
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has confirmed that Reyes is the "first DCU character," which would obviously suggest that Blue Beetle factors into his plan for the budding shared universe. However, in a recent interview with Fandango, star Xolo Maridueña indicated that nothing was certain, and his return will depend on this movie's success.
"I have had the pleasure of getting to speak with Mr. James Gunn and the whole DC fam. And, you know, at the end of the day, I think, first, we have to cross this first hill, right? And introduce Jaime to the world. But I think it's up to the audience to watch the movie. It's up to everyone to show up for the movie and it's so wonderful that we get to make movies like this."
Check out the clip below, along with some new posters.
"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."
"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."
The cast also includes Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.
Blue Beetle is set to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.
