Warner Bros.' upcoming Blue Beetle movie has added three supporting cast members, with Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo and Harvey Guillén set to join Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña in the lead role of Jaime Reyes.
Brazilian newcomer Marquezine will play the female lead and Reyes' love interest Penny, Escobedo (Sex Appeal, American Horror Stories) will portray Jaime's younger sister Milagros Reyes, and Guillen’s (What We Do In The Shadows) role is currently being kept under wraps.
Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, the film will focus on Maridueña's take on Reyes, who was introduced back in 2006's Infinite Crisis. The Mexican-American teen was actually the third character to take up the mantle of Blue Beetle after after Dan Garret and Ted Kord - although he's arguably eclipsed both in popularity since. Mexican-born writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer penned the screenplay, and John Rickard is on board as producer.
We got our first look at some concept art for Reyes' costume last year during DC FanDome.
The movie was originally being developed as a HBO Max exclusive, but we recently found out that The DCEU's first Latino lead hero will make his feature debut on the big screen on August 18, 2023.
