Recent Blue Beetle box office estimates pointed to a disappointing debut for the DC Comics movie, and if the latest projections prove to be accurate, Warner Bros. Discovery might well have another major flop on its hands after The Flash's disastrous run.

According to Box Office Pro's forecasts, Blue Beetle could take in as little as $27 million - $55 million... over the course of its entire domestic run.

Could the film really make so little? The figures do seems very low (especially as initial projections were for a $12 million opening weekend), and it's important to keep in mind that these long-range estimates often prove to be inaccurate. Even so, this does not bode well for Jaime Reyes' first big-screen adventure.

Though Blue Beetle's reported budget ($120 million) is not on par with The Flash, the Scarlet Speedster's recent solo outing proved that the current era of DC Comics-based movies simply aren't connecting with general audiences, and since Reyes is a far more obscure character, we'd say it is entirely possible that his upcoming movie fails to make even a minor impact at the box office.

Positive reviews and word-of-mouth could turn things around, but it's hard to be optimistic after seeing how the last few DC-based films performed. At this stage, James Gunn and Peter Safran have their work cut out to generate a sufficient amount of interest in the rebooted DCU.

Blue Beetle fan-screenings were held in The UK tonight, but social media reactions are still embargoed. That won't stop spoilers finding their way online, though, so if all of the movie's secrets spill before it hits theaters, we might be looking at an even lower audience turnout.

Do you think Blue Beetle will prove the analysts wrong, or are we looking at another box office bomb for Warner Bros. Discovery? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments section.

"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."

"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."

The cast also includes Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.

Blue Beetle is set to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.

Yes! Because the movie Max Steel is essentially the same story and that film made only $6 million worldwide.

It looks like a CW movie and that’s really not gonna cut it for audiences who’ve made it clear they’ll only see these movies if they actually look good. Feel like The Marvels and Aquaman 2 will be big flops too.

@tmp3 - The Marvels can only flop if Iger is really determined to not give in to the basic demands of the writers and keeps the cast on strike all the way until the Fall, thus boycotting the marketing of a product of his own company. I agree Aquaman 2 could end up in jeopardy, but not The Marvels.

And Blue Beetle looks far from being a network production. Not even their highest one in terms of production value (which was Stargirl, unlike what many would easily assume it to be Superman & Lois) comes close to look like this film. This isn't Mad Max but doesn't look as cheap as the counter arguments are making it to be.

@NinnesMBC - The Marvels looks like the most rote, blasé thing imaginable. It seems less fresh than Ant Man 3, which already bombed. Aquaman is DOA but i think everyone knows that. Blue Beetle has the same cinematographer as Hereditary and Beau is Afraid and it still looks like an episode of the OC, so something went wrong.

Main reason is no one knows this character, looks like WB, been done before and doesn't count, why would anyone go? I have zero, like zero interest in this dog 🐕 shit. Listen to the fans and stay on canon. This is morbious level, tanking.

It’s a little known character, on a barely promoted movie, from a franchise that’s has lost the vast majority of the general audience, in a time where theaters are becoming less and less relevant for smaller films in the wake of streaming, and it has no grassroots social media push behind it like Barbenheimer did… of course this movie is going to bomb lol. Hell I know the property and think it’s looks decent but I’m not spending $40+ to see in in theaters, I’ll wait until it’s on Max like I’m doing with Flash

When I first heard about this movie I was excited but the closer we get to it’s release the more less excited I get for it. Definitely waiting for a bootleg or for it to be dumped on Max. 🤷‍♂️
