BLUE BEETLE Set Photos Give Us A First Look At Xolo Maridueña In Full Costume

Production on Warner Bros.' Blue Beetle movie got underway earlier this week, and some new set photos giving us a first glimpse of star Xolo Maridueña in full costume have now been shared online!

Cameras are now rolling on Warner Bros.' Blue Beetle movie, and following a few unrevealing set photos that were shared online earlier this week, we have a first look at Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña in full costume as the titular hero.

We had a pretty good idea of what to expect from the outfit thanks to some concept art released during DC FanDome last year, and they clearly stuck pretty close to that initial design.

Check out the photos in the Tweets below, and let us know what you think of the costume.

Sharon Stone is set to play a newly created character named Victoria Lord, but a rumor that Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis will play her son, Ted Kord, has now been debunked. Brazilian newcomer Bruna Marquezine is also on board as the female lead and Reyes' love interest Penny, and Belissa Escobedo (Sex Appeal, American Horror Stories) as Jaime's younger sister Milagros Reyes. Harvey Guillen’s (What We Do In The Shadows) role is currently being kept under wraps.

Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, the film will focus on Maridueña's take on Reyes, who was introduced back in 2006's Infinite Crisis. The Mexican-American teen was actually the third character to take up the mantle of Blue Beetle after Dan Garret and Ted Kord - although he's arguably eclipsed both in popularity since. Mexican-born writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer penned the screenplay, and John Rickard is on board as producer.

The movie was originally being developed as a HBO Max exclusive, but we recently found out that The DCEU's first Latino lead hero will make his feature debut on the big screen on August 18, 2023.

That costume is quite impressive! Once they touch it up with CGI it’s going to look amazing.

Whoa! Definitely looks better than I thought it would look. Any word on who the villain is in this movie? I hope it’s not another Beetle.

@WruceBayne - other beetles need to be saved for the second or third movie

hope he takes on some kord villains (Ted's villains not villains who are part of the kord family)

Couldn’t look better. Seeing photos of the suit from the Flash movie from some expo really bummed me out today but this, this is how you do it

Holy shit this looks good, wtf. Expecting CG touchups on the helmet and that’d make it perfect

@tmp3 - i like it a lot….

… but i hope the navy marble-looking undersuit gets closer to the black on his mask in post, that’d be better imo

This is giving the Aquaman suit a run for its money in terms of directly adapting a suit from the comics

@dracula - Man that Aquaman suit legit had me teary eyed, it was beautiful. Say what you want about Aquaman the film (cheesy, bad dialogue, dodgy acting from a couple peeps)… but as an Aquaman nerd it was amazing to see that magic on the big screen. No lie I got choked up at the end when Arthur says “I am the Aquaman” and jumps out of the water with that gorgeous suit. And I might be in the minority on this but I thought it was the best action choreography in any superhero film I’ve seen. The action was outstanding, I salute James Wan and can’t wait for the sequel. A shame about Amber Heard cause I really hate when a project recasts a character, but it’s gonna have to happen with Mera since there’s no way they can not include one of the best Aquaman characters in future sequels.

Costume looks good. The car he lands on looks like it should have a mattress and Batman bedsheets. Like it has a driver's side window but doesn't look like it has a driver's side door?

Not MoCap suit?? 😯

@IcePyke - I know, I love MCU but one thing that really annoys me is their over reliance on CGI MoCap suits.. I get it for Mark Ruffalo.. but Spiderman? And they went from a great looking practical Iron Man to just straight up CGI Iron Man even when he’s standing still.. that Civil War airport scene in particular comes to mind. Spider-Man: Homecoming is already starting to look really fake whenever Spidey’s in full costume because he’s 100% CGI unlike the Maguire and Garfield suits.. I hope Marvel realise this for the next Spider-Man trilogy and just go practical.
