Warner Bros.' upcoming Blue Beetle movie has found its lead villain, with Academy Award-nominated actress Sharon Stone set to play a newly created character named Victoria Kord.
No other details on The Basic Instinct icon's role were provided, but we assume Victoria will be linked to the second Blue Beetle, Ted Kord (or possibly even a gender-swapped version of the character). Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans M.C.) has also joined the cast as secondary antagonist, Carapax the Indestructible Man.
Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña will play Jaime Reyes, with Brazilian newcomer Bruna Marquezine on board as the female lead and Reyes' love interest Penny, and Belissa Escobedo (Sex Appeal, American Horror Stories) as Jaime's younger sister Milagros Reyes. Harvey Guillen’s (What We Do In The Shadows) role is currently being kept under wraps.
Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, the film will focus on Maridueña's take on Reyes, who was introduced back in 2006's Infinite Crisis. The Mexican-American teen was actually the third character to take up the mantle of Blue Beetle after Dan Garret and Ted Kord - although he's arguably eclipsed both in popularity since. Mexican-born writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer penned the screenplay, and John Rickard is on board as producer.
We got our first look at some concept art for Reyes' costume last year during DC FanDome.
The movie was originally being developed as a HBO Max exclusive, but we recently found out that The DCEU's first Latino lead hero will make his feature debut on the big screen on August 18, 2023.
