CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR - 10 Team Cap And Team Iron Man Costumes Ranked From Worst To Best

There's lots of heroes wearing very different costumes in Civil War, and we've rounded up the ten which stand out and ranked them from worst to best. Where does Spider-Man place? Find out here...

There are a lot of things which get us comic book fans excited, but costume reveals most definitely outshine casting news and plot spoilers. After all, getting a first look at how our favourite superheroes will appear on the big screen is a huge deal, especially when everyone has their own ideas about the direction these adaptations should take.

Ben Affleck's Batman, Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, and Tom Holland's Spider-Man are among those which have caused a stir in recent years, but Captain America: Civil War is a movie crammed full of enough characters to get everyone talking about SOMETHING. Whether we're talking about newly introduced characters or returning fan-favourites who have a vastly different look, this first Phase 3 movie has taken these heroes in some very interesting directions.

With all of that in mind, I've gone through each of the outfits worn by the characters in Captain America: Civil War, choosing the ten which stand out from the rest, and then ranking them here from worst to best. To find out which hero comes out on top, simply click NEXT to take a look through the slideshow.

10. Hawkeye

loading

Promo art depicting Clint Barton has made his new costume look very purple, but that hasn't really come across in the official images and footage we've seen so far. Perhaps it will look better on the big screen, but I personally feel like this is a step backwards for the character after his much improved appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Still clearly inspired by The Ultimates, it would have been nice to see The Russos take a risk here by going down a drastically different route, even though Hawkeye's classic comic book look is something we're unlikely to ever see in a movie.

9. The Falcon

loading

Sam Wilson has come a long way since the Ultimate inspired (and very boring costume) he wore in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but honestly, this is still too military inspired for my liking.

While a bright red costume might be a bit much, there's way too much grey and black on this version, and it fails to stand out as a result. Yes, it's nice that Marvel have incoporated at least some red into the suit and wings, but it fades into the background because there are so many dark colours overpowering it.

It's a good job then than Anthony Mackie is so great, because The Falcon would otherwise run the risk of failing to make any sort of impact here, particularly from a visual standpoint.

8. Black Widow

loading

Black Widow is one of those characters who has a costume that not much can be done with, especially as she's been sporting the same look in the comics for decades now.

While I would definitely argue that The Russos made the right decision by ditching the unnecessary glowing blue parts Joss Whedon added in
Avengers: Age of Ultron, a little more red here would have been nice, as would a more detailed utility belt. As things stand, this is just another plain black leather catsuit, and not seeing Natasha embrace her role as a superhero now S.H.I.E.L.D. has gone is disappointing.

7. Bucky

loading

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with Bucky's appearance in Captain America: Civil War, but it's a little bland and arguably not as good as the suit he was rocking in The Winter Soldier. To me, this one just feels uninspired, and while the character has never had a costume as such in the comics, it would have been nice to see him rocking something with a little more style as part of Team Cap.

Of course, there's a chance he could end up wearing his own Captain America suit by the time the credits roll, but if Bucky is going to remain The Winter Soldier, changes need to be made.

6. Ant-Man

loading

Ant-Man could have shown up in Captain America: Civil War wearing Hank Pym's old costume, but it's nice to see that the scientist has given Scott Lang a much needed upgrade since the events of the pint-sized hero's solo outing.

For the most part, it's really not all that different, especially as the general design is pretty much identical to the last one, just with a more modern type of material. The new helmet is also great, but it once again isn't drastically different, and that loses this costume some points. Overall though, it's still pretty good for an updated design.

5. Black Panther

loading

When Black Panther was first spotted on the set of Captain America: Civil War, the reaction was mixed to say the least. The first official image certainly helped to build some excitement, but there was definitely still room for improvement in that first trailer for the movie.

Thankfully, there's no denying that T'Challa looks awesome here, and it seems like CGI has been used to make the suit look even better (something the Russo Brothers have previously indicated in interviews). Both standing still and in action, he looks good, though we definitely need to see more.

4. Scarlet Witch

loading

Despite suiting up alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, neither Quicksilver nor the Scarlet Witch had costumes in that movie.

While we caught a glimpse of her new look when Steve and Natasha assembled the New Avengers, this version (which has admittedly only undergone a few slight alteration) is even better.

The beautiful Elizabeth Olsen has the basque frequently associated with her comic book counterpart, and the jacket/pants combo is a nice nod to her Uncanny Avengers look. Considering the fact that Scarlet Witch has so often worn a costume which wouldn't look out of place in a porn parody, this definitely works on the big screen.

3. Iron Man

loading

Iron Man getting a new armour in every movie is now to be expected, but like many of you, I really wasn't a fan of the version we got at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

While it was a cool enough look, it was probably my least favourite of the bunch, but Captain America: Civil War has got it pretty much perfect. Clearly taking some inspiration from the Bleeding Edge armour from the comics, this streamlined look finds a nice balance between that and the Extremis suit Tony had during Civil War, and it's going to be fun seeing what new gadgets he's added in this movie.

2. Captain America

loading

Steve Rogers' suit hasn't undergone that many changes since we last saw him in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but considering the fact that Joss Whedon pretty much perfected the hero's look there, that's no bad thing.

Arguably the best alteration made by the Russos though is the removal of some of the unnecessary red parts across Cap's chest, and making the remaining bits a little less bright also works well. Now, it's hard to imagine Marvel ever drastically altering it again (unless of course another character ends up wielding the shield in a future release...).

1. Spider-Man

loading

Considering the fact that we've seen so little of Spider-Man, placing him at #1 may seem like a bold move, but I'd say that Marvel has nailed this new take on the wall-crawler.

The Russos have clearly turned to his Silver Age adventures for inspiration, borrowing everything from the logos on his chest and back to those eyes from artists like John Romita Sr. and Steve Ditko. Throw in smaller touches like that utility belt and the web-shooters on the outside of his costume (a la Ben Reilly), and this is a really cool look for Spider-Man.

The moving eyes are a bonus too, and the only thing this one is missing is web armpits. However, that may have ended up being overkill!
