Details On The CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR "Splash Page Fight"; Plus New Image

EW's Captain America: Civil War coverage continues with a BTS look at the movie's big superhero showdown, which the crew took to calling the "splash page fight". There's also a new still featuring Cap (Chris vans), Bucky (Sebastian Stan), and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen)...

Entertainment Weekly has posted details on that big Captain America: Civil War airport fight scene glimpsed in the recent trailer. They start by reestablishing the sides: as we figured, Cap will be joined by Hawkeye, Falcon, Bucky, Scarlet Witch and, yes, Ant-Man. Backing up Iron Man will be War Machine, Black Panther, Black Widow and... well, they don't reveal who else - but if that leaked concept art from a while back is anything to go by, it'll be Vision.

Some specific scraps are described, too: apparently Black Widow gives Ant-Man a firm beating, while Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch blast away at some unseen foes in the sky (probably Rhodey and Vision), leaving Cap to go one-on-one with his former friend, Tony Stark.

The Russo brothers, who also directed the previous Captain America movie, give us an idea of the mindset of these characters as they throw down with the fellow heroes they once considered allies.

“The story is about family. And what happens if they don’t agree,” says Joe. “We’ve been comparing it to a fight at a wedding. What happens when your cousin and your brother go at it, and whose side are you on, and where does it go from there?” His brother Anthony adds: “How do you move forward from a moment where people who used to love each other and were on the same side, now hate each other and are trying to hurt each other?. [Cap is] such a strong, grounded, morally centered, ethically centered character. You can beat at him pretty hard as a hero, to try to crack that strength — both morally and physically.”

I love the emphasis on the family-like relationship. No using horrifically immoral tactics to undercut each other like the comic.

@DrDoom

Falcon and Wanda, in that shot alone, have more flying screen time that Thor has in 4 movies.

Just noticed that Cap is standing between Bucky and the German police here. Bucky is definitely being arrested here.

This leaked still is from the D23 footage. I think this is Wanda during the rumored scene in Africa where she fails to contain the bomb Crossbones has. What would make Wanda lose her mind??? Maybe inadvertently causing the deaths of civilians.

@Th0rOdinson

Isn't Widow a super-soldier in the comics? I do agree that human Widow is too strong. She didn't even get a scratch from any Ultron bot. The same goes for Hawkeye.

@Ramiel I think Whedon tends to make his heroes very "comicbooky". Which allowed for BW and Barton to be overpowered a bit...not just overpowered really, but coming out of fights without a scratch. Although, hawkeye was pretty [frick]ed up after AOU.

RUSSOS fights have more validity to them. There's bruises, blood and more. You feel every punch.

Widow is a tactical and cunning fighter. For all we know, she finds a way to temporarily disable his suit and then proceeds to beat his ass. I think the Russos portray her realistically unlike Whedon.

@ComicsBornAndBred I guess that's the black panther/captain America chasing Bucky scene.

@CAD1021 I think so too. I think Panther wants Bucky for his own reasons; wants him to maybe face Wakandan justice. Then the German police get involved.

She said that it's her "dream job". Let's hope so because her resume doesn't look pretty to me.

@CAD1021 I think Panther is gonna be this enigma that involves himself in the plot and someone who will insert himself on Tony's team, just to see all the players on the field. He's in this for himself though. I think he'll mysteriously show up hunting Bucky until he divulges his true motives.

If you had to help your brother or your cousin? Why not brother against brother or cousin against cousin, lol. I'd figure most people would help more immediate family, as long as said family isn't a jerk.
