UPDATE: Jim Rash & Alfre Woodard Have Reportedly Joined The Cast Of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

After months and months of waiting, in just one week, Marvel's grandest film yet, Captain America: Civil WarMarvel's, will finally make its epic debut at a massive premiere event in Hollywood.

Earlier this evening, Marvel/Disney issued a press release for the premiere with a list of which cast members would be attending the event, and there were two unannounced cast members that immediately stuck out - Academy Award-nominee and 4x Primetime Emmy winner Alfre Woodard and Academy Award-winner Jim Rash. The latter has a fairly strong history with Russo Brothers, having worked with them on the hit NBC show Community, and it's likely that Rash may be appearing for just a cameo, similar to how fellow Community alum Danny Pudi made a surprise appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Woodard's inclusion is a bit more intriguing, especially considering that she's already been tapped to play Mariah Dillard in Netflix's Luke Cage this fall. Could this be a sign that the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be opening up to the idea of a crossover with their über-popular Netflix shows? Quite possibly. However, there are rumors floating around that the minor role she plays may actually be a different character, but if those prove to be false and it actually turns out that she's playing Dillard in the movie, then this would be the first time a television character, albeit one that has yet to debut, will make the jump from the small screen to the films.

UPDATE: Well, it looks like we may have jumped the gun on crossover possibilities as ScreenCrush has learned that Woodard won't be playing Mariah Dillard, which means that there will likely be no Luke Cage tie-in. She'll instead be appearing in a small, but pivotal role in the film's opening: "She’ll be playing the mother of an American citizen who was killed during the Battle of Sokovia in Age of Ultron. Her character has a confrontation with Tony Stark where she lays both guilt and blame at him for the death of her son. It’s this encounter that convinces Tony to back the Sokovia Accords that would regulate The Avengers and other “enhanced individuals.”" They also add that Woodard was cast in Captain America: Civil War long before she was cast in Luke Cage, which makes sense considering Civil War wrapped in mid-August 2015 and her role in Luke Cage wasn't confirmed until late September.

There's always a chance their names were placed there in error, but if history is any indicator, then it's more likely than not that we will indeed see Woodard & Rash in the upcoming Marvel epic.

What do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
