Will We Really See Gwyneth Paltrow’s ‘Pepper Potts’ Return In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR?

Much to everyone’s surprise, it was reported earlier this month that Gwyneth Paltrow will somehow reprise her Iron Man 3 role as Virginia Pepper Potts in Captain America: Civil War. And though Empire magazine had cited directors Anthony & Joe Russo as its source that the Oscar-winning actress will have a “small but key role” in the upcoming Marvel threequel, Lainey Gossip is reporting things have since changed. According to the site, whose source is unnamed, Pepper is not in Civil War, but she does “cast a shadow over facets of the story.”

Considering Gwyneth Paltrow’s multi-picture deal with Marvel had ended with Iron Man 3, bringing the character back for the already jam-packed Captain America: Civil War would be “hella expensive,” per Lainey Gossip. So, how exactly is Pepper Potts involved in the story? That answer remains to be seen, however, the questionable source does make note that, “There are ways to invoke Pepper without actually having to pay [Paltrow] to show up.”

We should obviously believe Empire magazine over Lainey Gossip. However, the latter site has been quietly building a good track record with info on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly with the highly-anticipated Civil War. In the same report claiming that Paltrow will not appear, Lainey Gossip praises that Marvel is “VERY confident” in the final product and that the film “has done the thing Avengers: Age of Ultron couldn’t quite manage—it came through editing intact.” Furthermore, the site goes on the drop hints about the film’s ending, in that it will “prompt a LOT of debate,” and leave audiences fighting. Finally, the site mentions that Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther and Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier “have all the coolest moments between them” in Civil War. So, what do you think?

Directed by Anthony & Joe Russo and from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. With an all-star cast that includes Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Emily VanCamp, Daniel Brühl, Frank Grillo, with William Hurt, and Martin Freeman, Captain America: Civil War is scheduled for release on May 6, 2016.

She only had four movies on her contract?

Honestly, I'm kinda interested why Cobie Smulders isn't on the movie.

Hmm, I really don't like the idea of Pepper coming back only because I don't want any more people in this movie. And Lainey Gossip, doesn't sound like a very reputable site but I do love the idea of Winter Soldier and Panther having the coolest moments in the film, it seems fitting to me.

Oh boy, as if BvS haven't prompting enough debate for us.

A lot of people think Cap dies in this movie.

I don't think so.

Rather, I think he gets imprisoned in The Raft.

Check out that brief shot of Stark with an arm brace in The Raft. I think that's from the end of the film. No way is he getting in the Iron Man armor with the arm brace. That's after the final battle. And he's there talking to Cap in a cell.

And that's the debatable ending. Is Stark right? Is Cap unjustly imprisoned?

I can't wait.

I think it would have been nice if she returned, because it is odd that she isn't returning. If Tony is still with her and she hasn't been killed offscreen then there isn't any reason why she shouldn't return. I can't imagine it'd cost a lot for a few screens, but maybe it really would cost an arm and a leg.

"Furthermore, the site goes on the drop hints about the film’s ending, in that it will “prompt a LOT of debate,” and leave audiences fighting"

Hopefully its not a kind of debate where, happening with BvS, you know a debate on quality.
