Chris Evans And Hugo Weaving On Captain America

Chris Evans And Hugo Weaving On Captain America

There have been a few of these MTV vids already, but this one is a little more revealing than usual as Evans talks about the tone and look we can expect from The First Avenger: Captain America.

At the start the interviewer asks a question I think many of us are also curious about. How do you keep a bit of the cheesiness out of a character like Cap in live action. Evans and Weaving respond by giving us an idea of the tone the movie will have, and what to expect on the current CBM gauge(somewhere between Iron Man and Batman perhaps?)

"The nature of comic book movies in general — I mean, with Wolverine, you've got swords coming out of a guy's knuckles — it's all a bit fantastical,"

"It's about finding a good script, a good director and finding a way to ground it in reality, Even if it is a bit dream-like, as long as you stay consistent, if you can get the audience to commit in the beginning and go for the ride, I think they'll jump on board and not try to burn holes in our consistency."

Hugo Weaving added

"If you can enjoy that aspect of it as well, if the script has a sense of humor to it, then those sides are actually enjoyable for the viewer and the people involved,"

"They did mix in some good comedy," added Evans. "It's not comedy on the nose — we're not cracking jokes — but they did find a way to add humor."

"As far as the look of it's concerned, I definitely did ask [director Joe Johnston], 'What kind of gloss are we going for? Is this going to have that Spider-Man, Fantastic Four shine?' And he said it's not going to be that glossy or that colorful, but it's not going to be something as dark as something like 'Batman, I think it'll be a nice happy medium. I think the world of 'Iron Man' was done really well. It stayed grounded in reality but still stayed true to the fact that it's a comic book movie, so it does have to have some life to it."

Evans describes things perfectly. I think all the Marvel movies have the same tone really.

Again I still dont like Evans as Cap,he's a comedian so is Reynolds.(even Ruffalo is miscast, too old n out of shape)

what if Thor n Cap dont make good money, will we be still having Avengers.

@ bullsize: Reynolds has done comedy but Evans has only acted in comedy. Hes an actor hes never done comedy as in stand up or nor was that his goal. He was just good at it. In fact most of the best dramatic actors started with comedic roles and grew to be the greatest actors.

Examples:
*Tom Hanks
*Will Smith
*Rober Downey Jr.
*Woody Harrelson

and more....

I think they'll get it right. Iron Man 1 & 2, and The Incredible Hulk had the same sort of feel. Thor seems like it's going in that direction. Remember that Marvel is behind all of these movies and they're all connected, so they should all have a similar medium of shine vs darkness.

We'll see how Evans pans out as Cap. I'll say this though, he's an insightful person who brings perspective to the movie.

True dat about Wolverine, you can't break the rules of your universe even if it is fantasy. I want this movie to work but to me Joe Johnston seems as bad as Louis Letterier. Hulk was good but could have been way better, Wolfman was a waste of class actors, anyways we'll see

bullsize@ I suggest you watch all of Evans' movies before you tout him as a comedian. He has played a few serious roles and did a very good job with it. Echo what TheMessenger said.

I like Chris Evans, always have. I'm glad he is Cap for the reason that he can now finally break out of his comedy role shell (even though he's been ones without humor), he is widely known for his quick one liners that are always funny. But now that he's Cap, he'll have to be serious and flush out his inner actor, which I'm excited to see. If you just watch these interviews, I don't even see him making any jokes at all, and he seems pretty serious about it and the movie. And Hugo, well he looks bored out of his mind in all of these videos lol.

The footage they showed at SDCC was VERY early - the scene still had time-code all over it (not fully edited/sound synced yet) and while it only showed Hugo (pre-Red Skulled) and his Nazi platooon finding the Cosmic Cube in a box, he seemed to be on his A-game, like a german Agent Smith which somehow made him seen even nastier lol. He is going to own as Red Skull.

Also the teaser revealing the suit - it was called a teaser for a reason lol short but oh so sweet. Very quick pan up the suit followed by fade to black followed by the shield being thrown towards the camera. Im not 100% sure it was Chris in the suit but it gave you enough info to imagine what the final product will look like. It was awesome. CAN NOT WAIT FOR THIS AND THOR AND THE AVENGERS!

I remember the uproar when Heath Ledger was announced as the Joker, and look what happened there? Evans could really surprise us.

@ Hulk2099 - I agree, Evans is really gonna have to work hard so he isn't overshadowed by Agent Smith! :)
