EDITORIAL: Bringing U.S. Agent/Super Patriot (John Walker) Into The Marvel Cinematic Universe

After seeing Iron Man 3 and hearing constantly updated news on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, I thought it would be cool to bring an old rival of Captain America into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As the star-spangled hero known as Captain America is about to take on his own challenge in the modern world in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, more things from the past such as The Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes will come to haunt him. But could The Winter Soldier be the only thing that will haunt him from the past? There could be many things such as the loss of his fellow Howling Commandos that could also haunt him but as Cap steps into the modern world one of the major things could be the vengeful anti-hero known as U.S. Agent/John Walker.

So why involve U.S. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The character itself known as Captain America can be seen as patriotic and campy in the wake of the new dark and gritty films such as Nolan's Batman Trilogy with the general audiences taste. The character has even been updated into a more gritty character in the comics. Adding in U.S. Agent into the Marvel Cinematic Universe could create a more realistic cause for many reasons including why Captain America still dresses like an American flag. This character can give Captain America more of a challenge by pushing Cap's limitations. US Agent is known for slaying and killing his enemies.

Now I know most of you are thinking, "Isn't The Winter Soldier more of a challenge to Cap since he is facing his closest friend-turned villain?". That is very true but when you think about it, US Agent also has the things that make him a challenge. Let's go down the list shall we?

US Agent's Advantages:

-Identity Crisis: US Agent is also known for donning a similar costume of Captain America's. Most of the time in the fictional world, the citizens are often fooled by the antagonists similar looks to the protagonist and will think it's the protagonist who's been doing the wrongful actions and would frame him/her. This can go the same way for Cap and the US Agent, but with donning a black costume, which could resemble Captain America becoming more gritty.

-Government/Politics: Captain America himself is known for being very patriotic and involved with government/politics(his name says it all). In the comic, US Agent is titled as the new Captain America since Steve Rogers was forced to resign as Captain America. This could mean that Captain America would have to go beyond his limits and the government in order to protect the United States (if not, the world) from the hands of harm.

-Violence/Grittiness: US Agent has a thing for violence which could also make him a threat(counting his government position and resemblance to Captain America). Captain America is seen as a beacon of hope, peace, and justice to the youth and others. If his icon is crushed with violence, he will be a bad influence upon the United States, which US Agent has the ability to do. The US Agent may shatter Captain America's influence by influencing violence and war of which he thinks is a "true ideal".

Overall, the U.S. Agent poses a worthy threat for Captain America and could turn his world upside down. Having Captain America face off a threat like this could show why Captain America stands for what he believes in and why he is the Captain America we all know and admire. So could we see U.S. Agent make a debut into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Be sure to comment below in the comment section to share your thoughts!

Dig it. Its got a easy story to place into the MCU. I don't see it happening till Phase 4 or five though when their looking to reboot the cap franchise. Good point on how it seemed campy after the Dark Knight trilogy, never thought about it that way.

Definitely should do this in Captain America 3. Would be a great way to introduce Captain Britain. Hawkeye could be in it too.

I don't see it as a possibility. I made a few fancasts based on 1 possible direction MCU could go. It was well received but way off once Thor2 was announced. Well some if it could be but I never had GotG involved. This is the final one with links to the preceding ones

In this particular one US Agent and a few others are wanna-be heroes rebelling against the Registration act much in the same way Batman had his mimics in TDKRises

@ager, Ah, but you can't forget, U.S. Agent was pro-reg. He joined the Omega Flight when the government offered him the position in exchange to be pro-reg when he was attacked by the villain known as Purple Man.

Meh. it wasn't really important to me. For the MCU, USAgent is to Cap what Ben Reilly is to Spider-Man or Thunderstrike is to Thor. It can be argued that Beta Ray Bill is the B-version of Thor (again, this is what the general public may see them as) but I wrote in my fancasts that he replaces Thor on Asgard when Thor chooses to stay in Earth permanantly.

I made USAgent, Captain Britain, Union Jack, Patriot, Justice and their leader, Citizen-V group together, as The Defenders, in honor of Cap.

On a side note I put Thunderstrike and others in a team called God Squad (a real Marvel team) as a Treky-type team that geeks over Thor

Pym has his followers too and there's a handful of other ones in there as well

I think that would be awesome! Especially if they made it all comic booky again like Avengers and Iron Man 3! I love that Marvel is embracing the camp in these films. Sometimes. As much as I am looking forward to Man of Steel, I also loooooooove movies with the tone of a comic book and some of the goofiness.

US Agent isn't a villain though.

And damn, how have so many people never heard of him? You guys really need to pick up a comic once in a while.

Good editorial.

Streamlining John Walker's story would be an entire movie. Challenging Cap at being Cap is always a good show.
